Transfer Rumour Kyle Walker

Typical over reaction on here.

This signing, if it happens at all, will have to be seen in the context of our overall dealings this summer.

In his prime we wouldn't even get a mention if a player like this became available but he has regressed as all players do as they age.
However, he is still capable of being one of the better players in our team for a season and allow us to spend our money on younger players who can still improve.
City will still pay a chunk of his wages or maybe we will pay more of his wage but no loan fee.

A player used to being in a winning dressing room with loads of experience. We are not so good we can ignore players like this.

Our development will take years not weeks and I think some need to rein in their expectations of what our transfer business will be this summer.

If Gana goes for any reason we’re lacking leadership. There’s Pickford and Tarkwoski on the pitch (assuming Coleman doesn’t play much) that’s it really.

Who else at Man City did we say that about, Fabians Delph hmmm. Bad signing for me as a person and sadly as a player too, he relies on pace, something our scouts seem to despise, he's 35, on a massive wage, do we learn nothing..

Still will be quicker than the majority of our current players. Especially those in his position. The 'success' of this potential short term signing absolutely is dependant on how we strengthen elsewhere in my eyes. If this is as good as it gets, not good at all. If we strengthen elsewhere at the standard we're all hoping for, this isn't so bad.
The order these things happen can really mess with perception, tbf.

If this was a July signing after getting a couple of good, younger players in, then I'd probably feel a lot better about it. This being the first major rumour (barring Charly's loan to perm) makes it feel more like setting the standard to come.

As always, we'll have a far better idea at the end of the window.

Still don't want him, mind.

Then we are lumbered with a bang average player on a longer contract

On the 4 very underwhelming options mooted, he'd be the one I'd want least

I can begrudgingly live with Walker on a 1 year deal as it allows us the option to address the position long-term next summer. Walker-Peters ties you into mediocrity in the position for the next 3 years
Wouldn't say he's bang average. He's a solid player and quite reliable. Would be fine as a starter for one or two years and then be phased into a backup for both flanks. Ideally we sign someone who is top quality like Vanderson from Monaco instead of toying with these freebies but it looks like we are bargain shopping at fullback this summer.

Anyone think it is a bit weird that alot are against Kyle Walker who still has alot more in his legs than 40 year old Ashley Young who everyone clammers to give a new contract to... isn`t this a case of over estimating our current players, like Evertonians do.

Walker, even now, is better quality than we`ve seen in that position for decades and I include a younger Seamus Coleman in that... Something has gone on at City, Grealish and Walker are the fall out from that.

Do I think any of them 2 end up at Everton? No. Do I think we can afford them? No. Does those 2 improve our starting XI? 100% they would.

There's nothing wrong with bringing in a few older heads to help the dressing room, as they long as they can still contribute reasonably well on the pitch. The problem with Walker is that he's an utter wally and the absolute last person you want your younger players looking up to. We experienced this with Rooney coming back, and although he did alright on the pitch for us, he still brought plenty of baggage and our standards just seemed to nosedive whilst he was here.

It's long past time that we address the right back spot as the priority that it is.

Yeh, totally get how it can affect fans mindset! And I guess as we're not used to the club doing the right thing in the transfer market, we're left hoping they've got a plan, rather than expecting they've got a plan!

Also get that he's not a particularly well liked person off the field. Here's hoping our team spirit runs off on him, rather than the other way around.

I wonder if this would free up Patterson to leave, either on loan, or permanently? With O'Brien/Garner as backups... I'd still just prefer the club to identify a new RB that can stay and play for years like.

Patterson is absolutely unfancied, so we've got to assume he's off. It'd be nice if we brought in a promising younger player to develop under/alongside Walker; it would at least make it feel like a coherent plan was in place!
