2024/25 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Hope is not a strategy. He is what he is and what he is sadly isn’t good enough if we want to progress. I don’t know why it’s even a debate. He’s had literally hundreds of chances to prove he’s good enough to progress the team. He just isn’t.
Indeed, hes been here almost 10 years now. Hes not going to be anything except what hes been.

Football ability plus Calvert-Lewin is an oxymoron!
I am not sure I would say Calvert-Lewin is not a good footballer!
He has planty of strong elements to his game and has been capped by England at U20,U21 and Full levels making 11 intenational appearances and scoring 4 goals.
However his weakness is he does not score a lot. Which, given that he is a striker, is a pretty key measure of success.
Add that to his injury record and I guess the question for Everton is: if he were available on a 'free transfer' would we bring him in?

I suppose the club is weighing up his market value if they were to give him a new contract. What is financially better?....let him go on a free now or give him his 80k a week and hope he knocks in a few and becomes worth 20m?

The math is more how much his replacement will cost vs what he will cost plus the risk of him getting injured again (pretty high). He's out of contract at the moment, there's no "salvage" value. You wouldn't/shouldn't be throwing money at him in the hopes you'll get some of it back by selling him, that's the definition of throwing good money after bad.

Just as he should be looking at his options in the market, so should Everton.

Stats were put up before. 45 starts in the last 2 years and he hasnt reached a combined total of double figures from open play. You cant gloss over that. 3 goals last year and 5 goals the year before. What club with even an ounce of hunger and ambition accepts that from a striker.
The England thing was 5 years ago for a few months. Michael Keane was once understudy to Englands centre halves.
I mean theres clinging on and clinging on.
The last game of the season at Newcastle was a timely reminder why we just have to move on. Put clean through and i reckon 95% of Everton fans knew he wasnt scoring that. Thats why he scores 5 goals a season. Not injuries or Dyche. Because he isnt a good finisher.
Ive got to be honest im very surprised now that any Everton fans want to persist with him being up front. I dont know what they see.
Spot on, I'm in the same boat, we've seen what he's got, his best form was 5 years ago when James was making the team tick,as soon as James was injured the goals dried up and have never returned, let's move on he isn't going to get any better and what he produces when he is actually on the pitch isn't good enough as far as I'm concerned, I for one don't want to see him trotting out as our first choice centre forward next season

Sources have now told Football Insider that with no breakthrough in sight, Calvert-Lewin will leave Everton at the end of June, and any indications that he would sign a new deal passed a long time ago.

Calvert-Lewin has already explored his options on the market as he prepares to become a free agent, and Football Insider sources have said that Everton will now turn to a long list of new striker targets.

The long list.

Jamie Vardy.
The end.

we will not sell him he is out of contract at the end of the month - he stops getting paid - he can go on a free transfer which I feel may happen he has been a bargain buy , but injuries have took their toll - good luck to him with his new club, & maybe he needs a change too.....
