Recommend me some 'metal' singers...

Like QOTSA, particuarly Songs For the Deaf. Think I've tried Testament and didn't dig the vocals. Opeth are on the list, and I tried Tool many years ago and just didn't get it, but am willing to give them another go as they've been recommended to me several times before.

Just to throw out a bit for everybody else, I've recently been quite digging White Zombie, and also a band I'd never heard of before called Code Orange...

Now we're talking. Although I must say Code Orange lean towards Hardcore, which fortunately is my game. Check out Stick To Your Guns' new one:

Belting record that came out this year, the above is the title track.

Stray From The Path literally just dropped a new one this week:

Very Rage Against The Machine-esque. The drummer is colossal, his roots are in Death Metal. That's something you'll find out if you have a deeper dig.

SharpTone Records are very consistent. I'd also recommend Nuclear Blast Records. Add both to YouTube if you like and see what is being put out in the scene.

Yeah, you make some good points. I see them all as having 'metal' leanings but not neccessarily heavy metal bands. For me the ultimate metal band is on display with Maiden's debut. I can tolerate Bruce, but there's just something about D'ianno and his understated punk tinged voice that I wish more metal singers would sound like.
If you like punky vocals and heavy riffs, I highly recommend exploring ‘noise rock’ bands. Jesus Lizard are a seminal example but there are tonnes of great bands out there. Loads of variation in the musical influences, unified by it being loud.

Also on a bit of a tangent - fugazi kick ass

Big fan of Opeth. Would recommend Damnation as a good starting point.
