Transfer Rumour Ben Doak

Looks a bit lightweight for the prem.
Think Pat Nevin, John Collins.

A bit predictable in his approach play, can't / doesn't have the strength in his right foot to whip in a first time quality ball from by the touch line.

His pace and skill levels are good but does seem to be playing in a five a side manner
too often and footage of his defensive and positional strengths are missing.

He's no Désiré Nonka-Maho Doué or Bradley Jean-Manuel Essolisam Addo Barcola which is probably why Liverpool will get rid and laugh all the way to the bank and count their transfer kitty Harry Wilson style.
Wouldn't mind Harry Wilson either

Did he? Are you thinking of Delap by any chance? He mentioned Delap because he has a release clause. I never heard him mention Doak at all but I may be wrong on that
what did Moyes say?

He briefed every northwest sports paper journo on it at the same time. Old school embargo and everything.

He was quoted on Delap in either the pre or post Newcastle press conference and then Echo, Guardian, Mail, Telegraph, Times all mentioned we were in on Doak underneath. It was quite blatantly mentioned by the club for all of them to run it at the same time (and all moyesys journo mates from the first time round). The line was we really like Doak but don't know if we will meet Liverpools 30 mil asking price.

Can't see them selling him to us.

Would need him to be insistent he's only coming here.
Can't see why they wouldn't these days, tbh. We're further from rivals that we've been in a long time. This lad isn't getting a sniff of their first team, and they can mug their dear neighbours off for a good few bob. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

If he is crap, they can buzz off us, and if he is boss, they can say "haha, your best player couldn't even get in our team."

hes 19 …

also a bit mad to compare him to Doue

I’m afraid we won’t be signing anyone of his calibre this window

Lot of pace which is what we miss on the right. His wages wont be an issue. His injury record is a concern as well as what the RS ask for reserve players.

15 mill tops and it might be worth the gamble.

Why would anyone care about that if he was boss?

People seem to be expecting the finished article at 19 years old. You’re paying for potential. Some clubs are happy to sell because they don’t want to hang around so buy the ready made player for big fees. We can’t afford to do it that way. I personally like the strategy of buying up young potential and hopefully watching them progress in a blue shirt. Good sound business strategy too.
