2024/25 David Moyes

Our home form hasn’t been great so I hope we won’t be as effected as previous teams in making their new grounds a fortress so I think 60 points, top 10 and a decent cup run would be represent reasonable progress at the outset. Anything on top of that is a bonus.

Looking at how he turned things round for us, is it unreasonable to hope for 55-65 points nest season, or am I setting my sights too low?
I don’t think you are but we do need to strengthen in the close season.

We drew 15 games which was the highest in the league and those clubs challenging for the champions league places all won 20+ games.Converting some of those draws into wins(Bournemouth,Utd and Ipswich loss and draws is worth another 7 points straight away).

Big summer ahead but I’m cautiously optimistic…it’s the hope that kills ya 🤪

I think one of the differences between Dyche and Moyes in terms of progression is that Im not sure Dyche would have come out publicly in trying to sign Delap.

Although Moyes always gets his obligatory knife to gunfight comments in, I don't think he has as much of a small time mentality as Dyche did. And I think that's rubbed off on the players.

I’m not sure on this. I always got the impression Dyche believed he could beat the big teams & that must transfer to the players whereas you always feel Moyes is trying to avoid a thrashing. Having said that the Newcastle performance was very impressive, need to see similar against Liverpool, City, Arsenal & Chelsea.

Yeah that's what pisses me off about Moyes - hence me referencing the knife and the gunfight.

Moyes is far less risk averse against the poorer and mid table teams though - which is evident in the number of goals we scored under him.

I think you have this back to front.
Dyche might nick a win occasionally after facing 30 shots and bundling one in the other end but most of the time he played for a 0-0

Moyes record against current top 7 since coming back is decent

Hard n probably fair summary that.

We're a big club, huge success in the past and huge attendances at BMD coming I'm sure.

But the reality of West Ham, Utd, Spurs hanging around us in the table shows that isn't enough.

The types of clubs in some of the Europe places shows what decent mgt and recruitment can do this league.

I'm sort of pleased that Moyes (who's the only manager to make a sustained positive impact in 20 years at GP )leads us out at at BMD, and stabilizes TFG's investment plans.

Not saying he has to make Europe or anything daft to be a success. But the points about ambition in the previous post are spot on. I hope he goes for it!

Goals, top 10 and to see a couple of academy breakthrough is a very good start. Don't waste cash, we've tried that. Culture first.
I think next year, he will have his chance to prove everyone wrong. He needs to become a manager that can consistently win games. I was impressed with the Newcastle game. We were sturdy in the back without Branthwaite away from home, and we still offered attacking threat. I actually think Moyes is one of the better managers tactically. In terms of ambition and his preference with players, I question that. We cannot go on another "Moyes drought" and expect to compete.

Football often doesn't work this way. If you buy or bring through the right players and you’re a top manager you can transform a team in a short time. Leicester being the best recent example of this but this is also what happened to us under Kendall first time around.

It’s fine margins. We need investment.
Upper half of table and qualitying for the conference league would be the first stop, followed by a good run in that and qualifying for the uefa cup.
All of a sudden that’s 3 seasons in and going into the forth.
we might have an anomaly season of over achievement but realistically that is a blue print for how you progress - especially getting European football experience against equally bad opposition. Playing two games a week is a skill and experience in itself.

I reckon what people underestimate - and maybe this is me getting on a bit myself - this is probably his last chance to compete at the top and he's not auditioning for a job elsewhere.

I thought the same of Dyche but he bottled it for some reason.
