2024/25 Michael Keane

The point st dom is making is as we all agree our standards need to massively rise so the like of Keane are no good for us no more. On Sunday the lagends parade summed it up for me some outstanding players coming the pitch from the 60s 70s 80s then when it came to the last 20 odd years 2000s onwards the difference in level of players was gobsmackin the drop in standards and talent was massive so the likes of Keane need to go we seen enough of this type of player simply never been good enough to pull on our blue jersey only the best remember
I wonder what the common denominator was for that cliff-drop in standards which started at approximately 1989...

We’re just repeating the same arguments with Keane I’ve heard a 100 times before. ‘He’ll be fine as a backup’. When will people learn that he won’t be a backup, the first teamers will get injured and he’ll be in the first team…costing us points…costing managers their job.
Even the notion that he'll be fine as a backup makes no sense. He's not good enough, simple as.

The only way you build a squad to compete is if the backups are pushing the starters for their place. This can only happen if the backups are good enough to start. Keane isn't.

Can't believe we've finally got our chance to get rid and some are advocating for him to stay.

It's like some weird Stockholm syndrome 😂

If we have money to replace him and everyone else with our first choice targets, great, let's do that.

What you have to ask yourself is would you rather use up £10-15m of the budget on a 4th choice CB or have that to go into the pot to get the best forward, winger, a box to box midfielder and a couple of full backs you can get your hands on. I would rather he didn't play for us again, but a lower wage or short term contract would make sense.

The reason we couldn't get rid of Keane was he was on 100k a week. If we only have him until the next summer when there is more funds available, then it isn't so bad. Most of the others who've said perhaps keep him would also rather him never play for us again, however no guarantees who replaces him comes in and performs any better, as we aren't shopping for that high a calibre player when we have JOB, Tarks and Branthwaite in front.

He'll probably leave anyhow as like Doucoure he'll think he can get better elsewhere.

If that particular player guarantees the team doesn’t make the entire defence around them turn into a quivering mess and concede 3 goals a game every time he has to play when inevitable injuries hit then yes, yes I would. It’s also very possible you could make money from that player if you improve them.
I honestly don’t dislike Keane as much as most on here and he’s scored some equally valuable goals as others lauded for running around but he’s a massive Jonah, he isn’t infallible and he creates panic to all his teammates around him. Even giving him 25k a week is a waste of money as he cannot be trusted and has proven this over the years, he’s not suddenly going to get better either.

Wonder how much he's cost us in league placings with gaffs over the years?

Has his goal against Crystal Palace when we were 2-0 down more than made up for it? Similar logic is being used for Doucoure. He’s 45 minutes away, at best, of making a defensive mistake and with it it changes the atmosphere of the crowd and the team so he simply cannot be lingering around until a testimonial. Purge the club of these wastrels!
