New Everton Stadium

Article about Fulham's new stand, but little mention of BMD:
This line - "The rooftop pool hadn't been finished - although you can't actually see the pitch from the pool. But that's deliberate. Watching the football feels like an afterthought." sums up why I am falling out of love with top flight football. It's increasingly a rich man's sport that's more about status and getting a great shot for your "gram" than it is about sport. I hope Fulham's new wankerstand sinks into the Thames.

I guess the hospitality suites aren't finished at BMD so difficult to compare at the moment.
Reading the article a lot of their hospitality in that stand is completely disconnected from the football, so wouldn't be surprised if ours isn't to the same level as I'm sure it will have more of a football focus than theirs, even if the club want year round facilities.

When I was a lad we watched our football from a ditch dug into the ground. It rained every day and the only food we got were any passing earthworms. But you know what? We were happy.

You had it easy.

When I started watching football, we had to crawl in through the underground heating pipework. We were made to wear suits of barb wire to scrape off any lime deposits from the water.

But equally shows the difference between the two clubs…Fulham almost feel happy finish 8-14th most seasons…being a prem club is enough. When they have been down no protest, their fans gave accepted relegation meekly.

I don’t feel our fan base are happy just to be here…we have fought tooth and nail to keep us in the league to progress, to get better! Not to pat ourselves on the back for coming 12th every season.

Luxury.

We had to walk blindfold though a minefield, with expert snipers taking aim at us with machine guns. Wild lions were released at half time and thrown at random into the crowd. Hand grenades were tossed from the main stand to the people below, and jet aircraft strafed the survivors.

Yes, hope ours is nothing like that!

Crap. Proper snipers never used machine guns. They were for the grunts.

Think that's a bit of a stretch, tbh. There's plenty on here that thought finishing 17th was a great achievement and constantly bang on about stability being their main goal. That smacks of being happy to be here to me, imo. On the plus side, not one of them asked for a stadium-top swimming pool where you can't even see the pitch!

The only time I would be happy with 17th if we were 18th going into the last game of the season ;)

This is now being reported on BBC and I was surprised see them say "With a capacity of 39,572, Goodison Park will now be the largest dedicated women's football stadium in the country."

Surely they don't intend to maintain a ground the size of Goodison just for the women's team? I thought for sure they'd reduce the capacity. With the best will in the world it's going to be a very long time before they can get regular full houses for WSL games there. Maybe with shrewd ticket pricing and for games like the derby they might be able to get close but seems like rather a large maintenance liability just for the ladies team (possibly U21s etc too?).

For what it's worth, I am very supportive of women's football and have coached my daughter's team from U5 to U14s. I have absolutely no issue with EFC ladies playing at Goodison other than I currently can't see the viability of the business case 🤷‍♂️
