2024/25 Beto

Post match of the day interview. Basically said he's at the level of a 19 year old and the 10 goals is "decent". But he's not 19 and he's working hard on his game.

Wasn't a glowing endorsement for our top goalscorer.
That was a 'kin stupid comment.

Moyes is an utter tit at times.

Undermining the lad - and for what, so he can sound like he's a manager who's in charge?

Divvy.

Who knows what TFG will do, but keeping average players will get us nowhere. Selling beto and the likes of james garner, Patterson etc can actually help us financially this summer. We need to be ruthless if we have any ambition to move forward
Agree in theory, thought would keep Garner. Who's out there at 30-40m that you'd play instead of , rather than alongside Beto?

He's just sung the praises of a player who's out of contract in the summer though.
Being a good manager requires you to know how to get the most from your team.

Some respond well to criticism and some respond better to praise.

I’m guessing the out of contract player you’re referring to is Michael “shrinking Violet” Keane.

A player who was in and around the England squad and playing some great football at a time when he had the luxury of playing in empty football stadiums.

This is as high as his stock will be. If we can make a PSR profit I'd be tempted to sell but equally I'm happy with him as an impact sub but one thing is for sure , we desperately need a starting No9.

Once again his goal has came from being fed through in behind (like almost all his Udinese goals) rather than just lumping it at his head cos he's 6"3

You may be correct, but I think there is a chance that his stock could further increase.

He was vilified as a donkey by everyone whilst working under a manager that makes Sam Allardyce look progressive. Then a decent manager has come in and he’s suddenly amongst the goals, and could quite easily had a few more with a bit more luck (against the RS and Brentford).

If he does end up getting 10 goals from this half a season, who is to say he wouldn’t get 15 - 20 in a full season under a half decent manager playing something other than the most ridiculous form of hoofball ever seen?

These 3 posts I think mostly sum the situation up.

Beto's stock will be quite high now.
Hes a player who needs the ball ahead of him
He could net a lot of goals over a full season.

If we've budgeted £30mil for a CF and selling him would add £30mil to that budget -- if we could sign an 'elite' £60mil CF then should we? After all, we could keep Beto and use that £30mil for a top player in another position.

One thing to mention, if we looked at him being 1st or 2nd choice then hes got 2 years left on his deal. Extending his contract spreads out the payments further for PSR.

Thats ideal but unlikely.
We could do worse than him staying. Going by Moyes he sounds like a good man to have in the squad, more than what he brings on the pitch.

Here are the facts: if Beto had been given the job he deserved from the start of the season, he’d be a top five goal scorer right now.

In 13 starts, he's average about 81 minutes and scored 7 goals.

As a sub (minus an early substitution for DCL where he played 78), he averaged 16 minutes in slop and scored once.

Not only did DCL score less than half as many goals with more starts and minutes, but he was offside twice as often as Beto.

DCL is where passes go to die.

It’s laughable that anyone judges Beto harshly for doing so much with so little time. Who’s the last striker to score 7 goals in a measly 13 starts for this club?

10 goals in all comps with 17 starts. Pretty good if you ask me.
It sounds really good when put like that. I don`t see any point in selling him now, when he has shown in the 3 months or so that he`s been more or less first choice that he can find the back of the net and links up really well with Alcaraz. I think we should be looking for another CF but we really need to look at RB and sort out our midfield, and get some wide players who can cross a ball properly.
