There are lots of positives. Things are on the up and up. We’re headed to a new stadium. Setting aside all the disappointment of yesterday and the past many, many years here’s what I think are the core issues needing changed. The first thing anchoring us that we’ve moved on from is (hopefully) instability in ownership. They’re looking good but we’ll know more after this transfer window and after a year or two. Who they’ll ultimately replace Moyes with is key.
But as a club culture, here’s what we’re lacking that separates the bang average from perennial winners.
- No amount of points you’re ahead of your opponent, you keep going for more. Killer instinct.
- Top to bottom (owner - DoF - manager) all on the same page regarding vision. Trust flowing up and down.
- An inspiring manager. Has to be forward-thinking, balanced attack and defence minded. A combination of friendly and fair but with clearly defined boundaries between player and management. You don’t need to Pep and Arteta and scream at adults. They tune you out. If you’re too close, as a manager you’ll make poor decisions and will lack the cut throat nature you’ll need to bench someone.
No blind loyalties. All about the club at all times, every match, every year. Make decisions always where the club’s interest is paramount. Not the player. It has to be that way.
Hah, fair question, Matty. It’s a long postwhat’s your main points mate

1. Our next manager needs to be fair, ruthless, and inventive.
2. Our club must never let off the gas in a match no matter how far ahead we are.
3. All decisions about who gets pitch time to who we recruit has to be all about the club. Loyalty to the club first, not nostalgia or any player.
Results have gone our way this weekend. We still have a good chance of a midtable finish. The team needs to take advantage next week.
Yup. But their form is pretty ropey. It’s a good opportunity for us.fulham aren’t a pushover and there’s a slim chance of europe
100% this. Such a limp performance. The opening ceremonies gave me tears. Loved itReally disappointed with the performance from the players yesterday.
Great spectacle from the 1878 and fans yesterday.
The fans made it a fantastic occasion and we got sod all back from the players.
Moyes needs to bin those players as their attitude is not good enough.
We need winners not players happy to avoid relegation.
Agree with all this.I went to the game yesterday, I thought we played well for about half an hour, got 2 up and I thought we would close the game out from there. Then they got one back and it all went down hill from there.
You can see what the manager is trying to do, playing the same way we played when he had Pienaar, Cahill and Osman behind a main striker and having Baines and Coleman Provide the width. But I don’t think the players we have now have the same quality, particularly in the fullback areas.
I thought the ref was shocking, I thought Delap should have been sent off in the first half, there was a foul on our player (Patterson I think) in the build up to their 2nd goal and even after the second goal Hirst fouled Branthwaite completely off the ball and should have gone.
The lack of flagging from linesmen has been a major issue this season across all games. They need to start stepping up and not relying on adjudicating after the fact from VAR.Agree with all this.
We were very comfortable until they scored an absolute screamer from nothing.
Second half we continued to look comfortable until the equaliser. Looked like a foul on Patterson but haven't seen it again. Also, when Patterson stayed down I thought the ref was going to stop it like he did a couple of times for them.
Once Ipswich figured they could get away with the excess physicality (cos the ref was awful and the linesman didn't make any decisions of their own) they caused us problems.
All the results went our way today. Funnily enough, we seem to do better when we don't play.
