2024/25 Abdoulaye Doucoure

Spot on mate.

I remember watching is away at Brentford last season, and he just bullied their defenders. He got a goal and played really well.

I remember when I first started mens football, and I'd have loved a player like Doucoure. You could fire balls at him, and he would make something happen.

If I played for a Sunday league team with a Doucoure playing every game I’d probably not bother turning up again as I’d know that team will be doing absolutely F all

Think we will offer him a contract on lower terms and considering how many players we need this summer, it's sensible as overall he has been a good signing. We do need another number ten though on top of Charly(hopefully he stays too).

Moyes likes a big physical player who plays at 10.

I think Doucoure is one of the worst technical footballers that I've seen in a long time and that he inhibits our ability to play quick progressive football. The fact that apparently he is our highest earner is shocking.

However you would have to be foolish not to see the attributes that he brings to the team in terms of work rate , pressing and aerial presence in both boxes.

Is that enough for a contract extension? Not for me but I can see why Moyes with a limited budget and needs to bring in players in so many different positions might be tempted to offer him an extension on reduced terms.

As I say I hope not because I want to see our playing style evolve and I don't see that happening with Doucoure in the team.

We know his limits, and he does have a few glaring ones.

He does pop up with important moments, that’s not to say he doesn’t squander others, but he’s been a good servant of the club, if he’s on 120k p/w it’s not his fault he’s on 120k p/w.

I’d be much happier if he was on circa 60/70k p/w and extended a year.

Equally if it’s time to say goodbye then he should go with praise and thanks for helping to contribute during difficult times.

His inability to make a 5 yard pass can be annoying and frustrating, but he does bring something to the team that we miss when he's not there (energy, pressing, just being an nuisance for the opposition). I don't think it's a coincidence that he's been a mainstay of the team for most managers since he joined the club. As many have said, there are positions where the need for a replacement is more pressing so we should keep him if terms more beneficial to us can be agreed.

Agree with pretty much all of this.

Ideal world I hope we recruit well enough to not need a player like Doucoure in there. But right now, he’s masking a lot of issues we have in terms of physicality, work rate, positioning. I can’t remember the last time I watched us and thought we had better technicians all over the pitch.

He’s allowing us to cheat up top and in midfield, a lot like Cahill, Fellaini used to when they’d drop into midfield to make us compact. It’s ugly, admittedly, but if it gets us 3/4 positions higher than we’d expect then it’s worth a lot of money to help the rebuild.

….limbs, nothing like the total joy of a 94th minute winner;

He said: "It feels amazing! We had a perfect game plan today and we played brilliantly. All the team worked hard. I think we deserved the win – we created so many chances. Obviously, I did well in the end in the last minute – I believed that I was going to score today. The ball arrived at the right time, it was the perfect ball and I made the perfect run. The finish was top as well!'

The Toffees dominated Nuno Espirito Santo's side throughout, putting an end to the Garibaldi Reds' nine-match unbeaten home run and handing them their first defeat on home soil since November 2025.

"I love this club. I tried to play well. I met some kid before this week and he asked me to do a celebration if I scored, so that was for him," Doucoure continued.

"Sometimes you think you are going to score, I had that today. It was a top week for us. I think we dominated them from the first minute: we won the tough challenges, we controlled the ball, we created chances. I think we needed to score some goals, it came very late but I think everyone is going to take that win!"

The Blues followed a draw against title-chasing Arsenal with three points against the third-placed East Midlands outfit, leading Doucoure to heape praise on head coach David Moyes.

"The manager was very happy with the performance. He knows we need to be more clinical and we have to score here to win the game here today. I think today was the perfect finish in the end," said Doucoure.

"It has been very good since David Moyes has come in. We can see the difference that he makes in the team. We needed to win some games, it had been a while since we won. To win against Forest – a top three team – is very good for us."

No issue with him as a person, seems a very likeable guy.

And fair play, he has scored some important goals and (bar a spell under Lampard) he puts his all in. I can see why managers pick him and what he offers off the ball (athleticism, aerial presence, making tackles, disrupting the opposition).

But the whole issue we have had is that our team is not good enough technically, we need to get better technical players who actually offer more with the ball.

Fair enough as a squad option for another year on 50/60k a week if he would accept that. But we need to be moving on from him with a better footballer who can contribute more goals/assists from that number 10/supporting striker role. (Only has 13 assists in 161 games for us).
