No I think you're just misunderstanding the entire point I was making to be honest. Obviously Paul McCartney playing at Goodison and the last game being on Sky wouldn't individually create loads of money, like in terms of people just throwing money at us on the day. I didn't think that needed spelling out. The point I was making was that the more you're in the news and in people's consciousness and associated with big things, the more appealing you are to investors, sponsors, and new fans.
Any publicity from this is good publicity for Everton

Maybe I'm an idiot who just doesn't get modern football, but this whole potential circus with Mccarthy singing and whatever just isn't for me. The night should be about Goodison Park and us, the fans who love it. This place means the world to me. it's where my Grandad first took me at four years old. It's the place where my Dad and Grandad (neither of whom are around anymore) took me week in and week out and where me and my Dad truly bonded. Its the place that I've got my final happy memory of my beloved Grandad. It's the place where me and my bro could bond even when we couldn't stand each other. Its the place that me and my mum would walk my other bro to in his wheelchair whenever he got distressed and it always calmed him down. Its the place I took my Mrs on our third date and I knew she was the girl for me because she referred to the blues as "us" and "we". I've got so many amazing memories of this place and while it'll be nice for the higher-ups and tv people to have a celebrity signing a song it'll mean absolutely nothing to me.
McCartney and Midge Ure?

Paul McCartney isn't the only answer to that particular conundrum btw, I am sure there are no end of good ideas and possibilities.
As long as it's not Taylor Swift... some of us have more class than that. Unless she's in the nuddy, in which case go for it.

The licence application said extended for incidental music which would rule out a post match live performance.

Given the required set up for someone like McCartney, I would imagine any performance would pre-game. Easy enough to set up a stage in the centre circle. Whacks out out 3 songs before kick off similar to the CL final?

I’d say the post match pitch invasion would have ruled that out anyway!

You're probably right, though I don't see why we want their attention, we're not Kopites. Saying goodbye to Goodison is for us fans, and Sky / TNT / The Prem can get f***** if they think they're going to take ownership of it.
There will be 39000 at the game ..we have a much bigger fanbase who won't be able to attend and would like to see the occasion.

Precisely my friend.

When you consider:-

a) The PL tried their best to sink us.
b) Sky, TNT, BBC, et al, most of their commentators are normally exceptionally critical of us as a club and our fanbase.
c) When we found out about our points deductions we, or most certainly myself, discovered just how much we're disliked by the footballing public.
d) The press certainly don't go a bundle on us.

I could go on but I agree with you this is our party and any of the above suddenly appearing to want to celebrate the occasion can just do one.

….i’ve been to my final game, also did the stable tour (introducing my 3yo grandson to the place). My son has got a BMD ST but thinks the Arsenal game on Saturday was his last, being so difficult to get tickets for the last games and we’re all off for a family holiday at the end of April.

I’ll admit to feeling a tad ‘emotional looking around and thinking that I’ve been coming to the place from the early ‘60s. It’s more the family connections with my parents and now being so chuffed that my own kids and grandchildren are keeping the tradition.

Ah well, thanks for everything, Goodison has been part of my 68 years but at least Everton will continue to be.

I thought I'd been to my last game when I walked out of the Street End with the Toon fans chants ringing in my ears that evening they bounced us 1-4.
But Everton will always be with you and me and will always draw you back in. As things transpire I'm not 100% certain of being able to go if the game is moved to the Monday. Fingers crossed it stays for the Sunday.
