Just a couple of pointers , Newcastle never came in for DCL, nothing ever in it , not wages or anything else. He has not asked for a move , yes he hasn’t signed a new deal . The truth was he couldn’t play under Dyche and the long ball . He may well go at the end of the season , if he does good luck to him . Nobody apart from him his agent and EFC will know what his demands are to stay , so let’s not guess

Not sure this is true mate. Some pretty credible reports, Athletic etc and even Ornstein reported it.

Paddy Boyland/The Athletic;

Everton offered the former England international a new deal towards the end of last season and have since maintained their interest in re-signing him on fresh terms, but he has left his future unresolved.
He rejected a move to Newcastle United last summer, one which would have seen the winger Yankuba Minteh effectively move in the opposite direction in a separate deal, but no other club came forward with a meaningful proposal.

I think if he did go to Newcastle, Minteh would now be an Everton player.

The reports from Newcastles end though from pretty clued up people, that they wanted to replace Wilson and when Wilson wasn't going to be able to leave, they pulled out.

It's not easy to discern who is in the right/wrong, but I wonder if things were quite as far along we we may have thought?

Don't know figures but rumours of £150.000 whatever the truth must have been hefty as Newcastle said thanks but no thanks as soon as they were put on the table.

I very much doubt we offered him anything like that.

And Newcastle by all accounts pulled out because Wilson didn't leave, so their need for him was reduced.

My take has always been Thelwell wanted him to go. We probably offered him under 100k p/w on quite a short term contract. I can't see a world, where when you look at us looking to reduce Doucoures pay we offered him more.

Understandably he probably felt he could get a better offer elsewhere, and ultimately nobody came in with a bid that was good enough for us.

I mean, genuinely have we created him many big chances?
Every time some asks this about DCL I get a flash back of that chance at Villa Park where he was put straight through on goal and somehow failed to get a shot away before the defender cleared it.

Don't think so personally.

If Brighton hadn't waded in for Minteh, Newcastle would have coughed up for Lewin, to allow us to get Minteh.

They desperately had to sell Minteh which was the key.

Id be glad to see him stay but not as the striker we're relying on.
Im very conflicted, I think hes a great player, who if given the right tools would be a great asset for any club.

But large portions of this fanbase will never accept him, I feel like hes hated more than hes loved, hes been here 9 years and we dont even sing his name when he scores.

So for the above reasons, I think he should leave.

Im not going into the reasons people have, sure his long spells injured and goal droughts dont help, but as ive said, hes worked under some pretty bad managers recently.

Moyes is here now and we all expect some exciting attacking players to be bought in the Summer, so if he stays and stays injury free, then hes an asset.

In short, I agree, Beto is an option, but, I dunno, I cant see Moyes being over the moon with him.

Hes been here 9 years and in that time we have tried and tried to replace him and we simply havent managed to find anybody even close, so sure, lets roll the dice, again.

It would be a no brainer for me.

Lose him for nothing or give him some of Doucoures wage?

Look at the money even Ellis Simms goes for. We need to sign a striker this summer and we need depth.

The thing is both players looked much better when Moyes took over.

DCL only had a game and a bit under Moyes but he looked well better against Spurs than he had for years.

I'm not getting carried away on the back of one good 90 minutes under Moyes.

I'm much more inclined to remember the absolutely dire four years we've suffered through watching him.

He scored one goal, that I'd be willing to bet he'd never pull it off again in a month of Sundays as he controlled it with his feet, and people acted like he was a completely different player. Nah, I'm not drinking that Kool aid, sorry.

He did absolutely nothing in Moyes first match vs Villa and loads were ready to see him dropped. Go back to page 450 or so and you won't be reading people falling over themselves to praise him for Moyes first match.
