Would agree. Conservatively strategic was the phrase used by Thelwell. Can imagine maybe picking up and experienced squad player on a free if someone good is available but buying potential with good resale value is invaluable in this PSR world.
Think we will go for good Championship players plus the good ones from an Ipswich, soton etc

Honestly, I agree with you 100%, Manager-heavy influenced recruitment simply does not work in the modern game, but a DOF having total control over recruitment from top to bottom isn’t going to happen while Moyes is manager.

There have been plenty of murmurs about Moyes possibly having more influence over recruitment (which he shouldn’t). If that’s the case, do you scrap the DOF altogether?

My point is even if Moyes has a say on signings, having a DOF is still better than not having one at all.
I mean, who knows what the plans are?

I think we’ll just have to see how things shake out over the next 2 - 5 months.

We won’t know what the Friedkins are thinking, structurally, until it happens.

Don't think there is a great deal in the teams going down tbh, I know some are going on about Delap but not at the price that Ipswich will want for him.

you think we never one mate?
In classic Matty style, I’ll have to read the runes to try and understand what you’re asking… but I honestly don’t know what the Friedkins are thinking.

Personally, I like the theory of a clear structure where the DoF is educated enough and empowered enough to pick the manager and all the players. But that seems a really hard thing to get right, and managers have egos. So there needs to be some balance of responsibilities and opinions, realistically.

I'd love to know what our budget looks like this summer.
Yeah, I’ve been wondering about this.

Moyes seemed to reign his words in, from saying we should be able to spend in the summer to talking about bills to pay and being careful.

Part of me thinks (hopes) that’s because someone has had a word, pointing out that boasting about a war chest is the worst thing you can do from a value perspective.

The model works best when its a head coach type in charge and not a manager. Then the DoF and recruitment team can get on and deal with that stuff as the head coach just wants to spend all his time on the training ground working with and improving players and tactics. Look around the league, how many actual 'manager' types do you still see, most teams have a more coach type in charge.

Yeah, ultimately that’s just about titles.

Everyone wants this DoF - manager / coach structure. But how many does it actually work for?

Maybe he's being cautious with his words so clubs don't start throwing an Everton tax on their players.

But one way or another there is going to be a lot movement.

What do you think a potential ball park figure could be?

I honestly have no clue.

I do think PSR will be the limiter, rather than funding. TFG have the resources, it’s just whether they can spend them.

I don’t understand accounting enough to know how much extra headroom the new stadium will instantly give us thanks to season ticket and hospitality commitments.

I guess a bumper naming rights deal could be very useful, but we’d need that sooner rather than later.

Which is why I’m surprised the stadium rights deal hasn’t been sorted already. Gives us immediate massive boost in our revenue.
