Pre Season Matches.

I don't like us playing Premier League teams pre season, there's simply no need, there's a myriad of clubs out there, why play teams from our league that we'll be playing twice anyway. I think getting beat in such games could play a part as regard to confidence when the League games come around.

Well, it didn't work this season. We lost against Coventry and Salford, and just managed to draw against the mighty Sligo Rogers.

I'd see it as a big improvement on the previous seasons when we've gone in undercooked. As a fan I don't love the idea of pre-season games with teams from the same league and would rather play international opposition, but at the same time if you're preparing for a PL season the closest prep you're going to get is against PL teams. A couple of games against PL opposition then presumably a marquee friendly at BMD plus a couple of other things sprinkled in I think will have us more up to speed than the last couple of years.

Not really sure about the morale angle, at the end of the day you can shrug off a preseason defeat, and you never know, we might even win! As a team building trip, a money spinning exercise and preparation for the season I'll take it over Sligo, Salford and Coventry!

Yes, we need better standard of opposition, there are teams in Spain, France, Germany, Italy, Holland etc, just no need to play PL sides.

I always think people go overboard about who we play in pre season. The important bit is the stuff happening every day off the pitch, the matches are just run outs really. I don't think you have to play 5 games against top class opposition to prepare for the season.
