I thinknhes got a bucket load of work to do to get to a decent level when it comes to hokd9ng the ball up and laying it off. Last night was probably the most times he's ever actually had thr ball under control and he had a tendency of not looking up and what's around him for a forward pass and passed it backwards

BUT

It was a vast improvement on what we've seen these last 12 months so it shows he's getting worked on.

I mentioned around Christmas time I'd watched a video if him at Udinese and his strength was the run in behind his defender. Thats his real quality and we've found him 3 times and he's slotted each time. That won't always be the case but that is a very good talent to have when each finish he's made as uncomplicated as possible.

If he keeps getting coached to work on the other part of his game, there's no reason there wouldn't be another 6-7 goals for him and if we did end up selling, we'd very recouping our initial outlay

The KFC jibes are getting tiresome now...

You say this as though it’s not a worthy trait. Finishing 1v1 is one of the most sort after attributes. We just need to play to his strengths.

He’s not a bad player at all. That’s a complete myth.
This 100%, play to his strengths and he will cause problems for defenders. He's not a hold up player he's off the shoulder getting in behind the defence. He's not amazing but he'll put a shift in and score a few if we get him in the correct positions. I love his attitude too, plays from the heart.

Completely fair play to him. I still don't think he is good enough to be our starting striker next season but he's done more than enough to show he's capable of being part of the squad I think. If Dom wants to leave then let him go and let's sign a new starter but keep Beto around. Moyes knows how to use him.

The bar was exceptionally low, but that was his best game for us by a distance. He took his goal well, offered an out ball, did largely well in physical challenges against their pair of mutants and he even held it up relatively well most of the time and got hold of it (something he very rarely does).

Got to be honest, I'm not a fan of his at all, but if you're a critic then I think you've got to give credit when it's due and, on Talksport, Stuart Pearce gave him MOTM. I think he was there or thereabouts for that, so fair play to the lad.

I actually mean it when I say this, but I have never seen DCL make such an intelligent run as he made for the first goal. Bending his run to say onside, intelligence to anticipate the quick free kick. In order to get the hallowed “service” you crave, you must first make yourself an option for your team mates to service. People wonder why DCL rarely gets any opportunities from clean through, or never seems to score at the near post etc. and the default setting is to blame all of his team mates rather than looking at what he doesn’t do himself.

If only we played League One reserve defenders every week.

Doesn’t matter, you can either make those runs or play those passes or you can’t irrespective of the opposition. Watch Beto play with Gerry in Italy and the goals he scored there. Same exact thing, Beto makes the run Gerry can play the pass. Apart from Armstrong the other player in the squad who can play those passes is Lindstrom. One of them has to play in Doucoure role to get best out of Beto

It matters because those runs don’t happen in the Prem. watch half the goals he scored and defenders are moving at half speed or leaving massive gaps. Technique can be sloppy because there’s so much time and space to play in. He’s not a striker that suits the league, it’s that simple.
Oh dear! I forgot to include Branthwaite, Tarks & Garner as players who could make those passes. But still :pint2:
