Nothing, just a combo of the manager putting self interest over the good of the team and playing his old friend Ashley, and if you believe it a refusal to entertain giving Jake a shot as he never agreed to the signing in the first place and wanted to show everybody that he's the boss.

I think I'll go with the far, far likelier scenario that Dyche was horribly stubborn and just decided he couldn't lace Ashley Youngs boots without much evidence.

I don't his performance in practice was really factored in by dyche. As dyche was predisposed to select his favorites like Keane and be weary of players without premier league experiences
