Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

It gave that impression, although he also said it the next breath that there aren't the deals to be done there that there once was.

Hopefully see a bit of movement this week which might give some hints to the priority moves and approach we can expect.
I think he's right to a point because most lower division clubs have worked in their selling to premier league clubs percentages whereas i think they might not have been as switched on as they are now. There's still loads of talent but you don't get them cheap anymore.

Moyes brought up the Championship a fair bit in a recent presser. Definitely think he's looking there.
Interesting - I basically took the opposite conclusion!

If it was the same presser (Tottenham pre-match), I think the journalist asked him about the success he had last time recruiting from the Championship, and he said something along the lines of that being much easier then (when not every club had such good scouting operations) and we might need to look elsewhere now.

But I guess that could easily have been managing expectations about him finding the next Cahill.

Yeah noticed nowadays the old lower fee with a percentage for an established champ player seems to have been replaced by a much bigger up front fee.

Going rate for a championship winger who had very good season whose 21-23 these days is around 15-20m

Could be that mate, but Moyes never really liked talking about transfer business with reporters at the best of times, he often talks in vagaries.
.
As good value for money raiding the city or Chelsea academy at times as looking at the standout championship players tbh

Yeah look at Jack Clarke to Ipswich. £15m +£5m.

Just seems to be the going rate now. And like Clarke, big chance it doesn’t really work out.

When I've seen Leeds the most dangerous player from their front three has been Dan James and I wouldn't want to go for him as his numbers aren't that impressive either at 27. Gnonto to me was an interesting prospect when we were first sniffing around him but I think I'd rather leave that deal now. He's taken a step backwards in his development.

Has he? What makes you think that?

He is still only 21.

His best season goals wise was last season when he scored 8 and 2 assists. (And 7 of his goals came after game week 30).

He is currently on 4 goals and 5 assists half way through the season.

He has arguably developed his game as scoring at a similar rate but assisting more.

….head and shoulders more effective than Gnonto, but agree about not particularly wanting him either.
