I'll go with you mate. I'm not a financial expert, but I've listened to a lot of the football 'financial experts' talking about this stuff (not clueless ex-players and the like) and that's what they said. Hope you're right, but if I don't know myself, I can just go off what they said.

Talk was that large down-payments would put us in breach.

Whatever the reality, we need new players in desperately so let's hope that's we have or can create enough headroom to get them.

We’re not even in for them though, we probably hadn’t even heard of that Kerkez. Literally I doubt Thelwell even knew who he was.

Because we have, and always have hired inept Dof’s.
We are absolutely clueless, we have hired Dof’s and then took on old school managers who don’t like working with one.
I’ve still seen no proof that a Dof is better than a manager buying players, at Everton.
It may work elsewhere but it clearly doesn’t here.

And Semenyo for £10m. Kluivert was at Roma being hawked about with various loans until Bournemouth signed him.
