Worst Squad Since Early 2000s

Moyes had some bad players in the early to mid 2000's, the earliest I can remember is 02-03 but at least we had an identity and were strong at home. I've never known Goodison to be so easy for the opposition
Our biggest issue squad was is a lack of option in important areas.

We have one left back. Not even a good one, a left back who gets injured a fair bit.
Our right backs are ancient or always injured (and again not even good in 2024.)
We have realistically 4 centre mids, one is on loan, 2 are over 30 and the other bloke is another one who is always missing time.
2 of our 4 attacking mids/wingers are on loan Our two best ones play in the same position.
Our strikers are all the same type. Big hold up players with minimal goal threat.
Even out of our centre backs there are only 2 I trust and if either of them is missing we are in trouble.
Goalie is boss obviously.

The absolute state of us.

It's not the worst squad not by a long shot, what is the worst is how it's being used, by a tactically inept manager. We don't have the pace going forward to play the style he seems to want but he either hasn't realised this or he doesn't care and has no plan B.

Is anyone ready to admit this now? Or do we need to lose the next 2/3 as well?

Unless we bring players in we are going to struggle. This is the culmination of years of asset stripping, penny pinching and woeful recruitment. Don’t envy the job Thelwell has been left with by Walsh and then Brands/Moshiri but he’s not absolved of blame either.

We just have nothing about us, I struggle to see what you would build around other than Tarkowski/Branthwaite and Pickford being fairly solid. We have nothing that hurts teams.

Moyes says hello...hopefully our fans can see that hard work and intensity is simply not enough nowadays in a very competitive premier league. We need quality, and teams below us have more quality than us going forward.

The early 2000s sides had fight and bottle, they just weren't very good. The likes of Pistone, Cleland, Idan Tal, Scot Gemmill were atrocious. But they gave their all.

There's some good players in this squad, with no bottle.

The players just don't have drive and desire to kick on.

It's tosh thanks to mismanagement of the club. Hopefully this is the low point.

Yep. What happens when you blow hundreds of millions on utter dross and have been paying the price since Ancelotti left. We have been in survival mode for a few years now. We brought in a lot in sales and were still on our ass needing low down payment deals for players and loans. That's how you end up with the squad we have now.

Yup. Just hope we scrape survival and a chance in the summer to move forward. But if we do go down then it would be the opposite of a surprise, normally the price of such gross negligence is your Premier League status.
