Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Nobody at all said this mate.

The opinion seems to be that some / me have no faith they can strengthen.

Im confused, then.

As I understood it - you've said repeatedly we shouldn't spend in this window, right? Like this example;

I think we stay up even with this lot in, 0-0's keep you up

Others like me, have said we need to spend, because we could go down.

You've said we wont/you're confident we'll stay up - saying we just need to repeat what we have. I've said that's too close to call and is currently 1 result margin of error, and could be gone by tomorrow.

It's too big a gamble when it's relegation when there's opportunity to sign some pace/creativity now to help us, even earn another result or two.

We lose tomorrow, and Ipswich beat Fulham and that's us down is the type of margin you're talking.

17th/relegated;

16/17 - 34
17/18 - 33
18/19 - 34
19/20 - 34
20/21 - 29
21/22 - 35
22/23 - 34
23/24 - 26

Lose tomorrow, and we mirror the first 19 games in the second 19 and we end up on 34 points - that's down 5 of the last 8 seasons.

I'd go further, our 19th game should have been the home derby - so if we lose tomorrow then yes you're right but that then gives us two games v that lot instead of a Bournemouth game second half of the season.

Makes the situation a little bit grimmer.

Both 1 & 2 can be true mate, they are not mutually exclusive - but with point 3 being relevant, VERY relevant.

1. I think we stay up anyway.

2. We can improve if we get good players.

3. No faith in the current football people to make point 2 work.

Appreciate that, but 3 feels overly pessimistic, and at odds with 1.

Have to remember TFG will have their own footballing infrastructure from Roma, and Thelwell hasn't been able to sign players without about 20 filters on his shortlist like "£0 upfront"

Pessimistic comes with being a blue surely.

I don't think they will have enough time to impliment what they really want in place for Jan window, thats a summer job really.

Im not 100% on them as football people yet, so no clue if they can rock up and solve our issues within 1 month. Enough issues at Roma to suggest they may get things wrong now and again.

We may need to be patient and allow them time first, so not sure they will risk comeing in and risking any summer transfer funds now.
