Last season his purple patches saved him. But by this point last season he was in a purple patch and had 3 wins on the bounce. If ones coming, it would be good to be soon.

How many pts do you think he'll need to be secure after the next 4 games? Same as me, 6 ?

i would agree normally but this was 4 games before the end of the season against the side that ultimately got relegated by 2 points
But that doesnt really change anything, there are other things in the exact same game you could say the reverse about (DCL missing from quite literally inches out for example) you can’t just isolate one moment as more important than any other.

In an alternative reality we get the VAR penalty decisions against Brighton and Newcastle this season and Beto’s header is an inch lower against Southampton and we’re sat here on 24 points, virtually safe and wondering whether it’s time to give dyche a new contract. That’s how football goes though, reducing a 38 game season to one moment and making out like it’s an actual relevant point doesn’t work.

true but at the end of the day when you look at the facts we finished that season 17th on 36 points, only 2 points above leicester city who finished 18th on 34 points

you could argue if we don't beat bournemouth on that last day we get relegated

you could argue if we don't beat brighton away we get relegated

even though you say its pointless, for me though, and probably in the minds of thousands of evertonians, that penalty save from pickford against leicester city was the definitive moment that prevented us getting relegated that year

I think that’s a different argument to be honest. It being the defining moment is fine, I just hate it when it all gets reduced to one moment like your original post did, it’s the same when people say ‘doucoure kept us up’ like we should be grateful as if him scoring one goal absolves him from all blame for being crap most of the season.
