The Kitchen.

Just dropped on Netflix.

I was really looking forward to this, as I was keen to see what Kano could do outside of Top Boy.

He’s excellent, but the script is a bit flat ( imo )

Set in the near future, property developers try to remove slum dwellers with the help of the police, from a set of maisonettes.

Kano plays a principled and decent man, doing everything he can to get out of the slums and by chance ends up looking after a young lad who‘s been orphaned.

Make your own mind up with this one.

Oh and Ian Wright has a big part as a pirate radio DJ !
I was really looking forward to this but it just felt a bit meh. Don’t think it really tackled or addressed any of the issues that were at the heart of the story. The futuristic setting added nothing either. It looked great and the performances were good from Kano and the young boy (and Wrighty) but everyone else felt like filler. No other characters were really developed at all and so it all fell a bit flat for me.

Big telly. I'm sure I've seen or dreamed a cut where Burke is a synthetic. Also the extended version has the actor that was captain of the mining ship red dwarf also in aliens as the head brass of the terraforming station. How unlucky can one man be?

Alien still just edges it for me, but it really is brilliant, the entire cast is on point, but it always amazes how superb Carrie Henn is, casting the wrong kid could have proper torpedoed it.

The piling on of tension, the whole situation gets worse like every 10 minutes, the Burke bait 'n' switch, the old London power station doubling as a totally believable colony, the practical effects still look great, perfect editing, belting soundtrack.

Stone cold classic.

Fun fact, Carrie Hen never worked again as an actor after Aliens and went onto become a primary school teacher - " acting wasn`t for me "

Yeah she's in one of the retrospective docs. Well, look at this way 100% hit rate!
She is absolutely tremendous, that first scene where Sigourney Weaver is trying to gain her confidence, she doesn't say a word, just perfectly conveys a kid that's seen unspeakable horror, then when she's told that there's soldiers here to protect her now, sadly whispers 'it won't make any difference..."
Just fantastic.
