The Reckoning - I've watched all 4 episodes on iPlayer. I knew Savile was a monster and that he was aided and abetted by the powers at be at the BBC and in the establishment, but this really hit home how evil he was. I bet you could literally feel the darkness around the guy if you ever had the misfortune of being in his vicinity.

I didn't realise how he was pretty much under suspicion from people all over the place throughout his entire career, since the 1960s. That just makes it even more galling that he was never brought to justice. I think the only minor solace is that he appeared to be massively fearful of death because he knew he was going to Hell - that's almost certainly what motivated his charity efforts (to mitigate his demonic side), and he must've known that people thought he was a disgusting pervert in his later years - especially when away fans at Leeds games apparently used to chant "Jimmy Savile will f*** you in the morgue".

It's bizarre to think that people used to like him back in the day. I was only a kid when he was properly famous and I always thought he was a wrong'un - I mean, how couldn't you? The guy literally surrounded himself with young women and kids, looked and acted like a weirdo, and literally told every TV show he was on that 'every girls school is frightened of him' and other such stuff.

He even said that same line on Have I Got News For You, and the audience laughed. Even if they thought it was a joke, who even laughs at stuff like that - a dirty old man saying he's abuses kids!

I think anyone who doesn't pay their TV licence is fully justified - and not just because they insist on showing Mrs. Browns' Boys. The corruption around Savile was rife and probably indicative of how many people in the higher echelons of the establishment still act today.

Excellent summary of his exploits. I only caught the last ten minutes of it last night and was totally transfixed by it. Knowing what we know now, it's almost as if I don't need to watch anymore but I'll possibly do all four tonight. Hiding in plain sight sums up that man. He took us all in. Steve Coogan doing a good job BTW.

Coogan was brilliant, but it made for very uncomfortable viewing.

This phrase is said a lot in relation to Savile, and of course a lot of people were taken in by him, but it's also obvious that many people weren't.

I think loads of people knew exactly what he was up to, and I know that members of the general public also saw him for what he was (well not to such depraved depths, but they knew he was a dangerous menace).

The problem was, he had so much protection from those in power, combined with manipulating millions of pounds out of people for charity (to ease his conscience), compounding his influence, power and ability to litigate against potential threats. There wasn't anything Joe Public could do about it. Having said that, I don't know why the streets were lined for his funeral - what an absolute national embarrassment!

The thing is mate, he quite literally single handily built whole hospital wings and funded equipment, that the hospitals wouldn‘t have been able to afford without his fundraising with his marathons.

That gave him enormous power and gave him access and influence that he would never have got otherwise.

Whether this was design or by default we‘ll never know.

The hospitals that he fund raised for, to a certain extent where dependent on him and I’d say that a lot of blind eyes were turned as a result.

It also gave him access to victims, both male and female too.

I often wonder if he slightly inspired the Culverton Smith character in Season 4 of Sherlock.
 
Mandalorian S3. I know it aired a while back, but I only get Disney for a month or two each year.

Really enjoyed it despite slightly less favourable reviews than the first two seasons.

Ahsoka, not so much. Made it to the finish but it was rather dull in parts and I didn't like how Ray Stevenson's character/story was pretty much ignored for the last episode.

I don't think the majority watching either of those programs are kids. And if that's what causes warped minds then what were Sutcliffe & Saville watching?

Watching the final episode tonight.
One thing I've noticed, there have been no trailers I'm aware of by the beeb, to publicise the series.

This is an amazing use of the word literally. Just imagining Jimmy in a high-vis tracksuit and gold builders hat chucking up bricks.

Joking aside, completely agree with what you are saying though. Horrible, horrible story about a horrible, horrible man.
