Summer transfer window 2023

Tonali for £55m, £38m for Harvey Barnes and £32m for Livramento isn't really throwing money around, especially when Tonali is currently better than Onana.

Last year, their fees for Isaak, Botman, Target and Pope were reasonable too, with only the Gordon one being excessive.
Unfortunately for me Gordon looked well worth the 40m on Saturday

"With no replacements coming in" is a big assumption (relating to the Onana sale).

Obviously if we don't use the money it's a daft deal at any price. But Brighton were "already in profit" before selling Caicedo for £115m. Doesn't mean they shouldn't do it.

If we sold him and didn't spend the money, then the argument for not selling him wasn't "we're already in profit", it was "we didn't use the money to improve the team".

Couldn't care less that we're already in profit if we sell Onana, reinvest and come out of the deal with a better squad.
Brighton werent 1 player away from relegation. Brighton also are not "already in profit" this window and have a negative net spend, having purchased 4 players.
We are +62 million, not including the inevitable 10m from Gray, since the winter. Since then we have purchased 1 player for 12m. If we have 72m to spend and seem to have no plans to spend it then whats the point of getting another 70?

Everton has other costs besides player purchases. It is not like any money raised through player sales can just be automatically spent on new players. The new stadium does not come for free, money has to come from somewhere.

1. We clearly don’t have £72m
2. We don’t “have no plans to spend”

Lavia is only 19 though, I know Onana is only 21 but at 19 he has a year in the PL and looked very good. Clearly the professional scouts working for RS and Liverpool (who I would suspect are better at judging a player's ability than you or I) think Lavia is the player to go for, otherwise the bids would be for Onana
With all due respect mate, that's pure Alehouse logic. Listen to yourself, trying to construct an argument about age and time spent in tbe prem and which clubs are Interested in which player and being all Paul Merson about it.

Lavia plays for a team that's been relegated, and so is 'in play' right now. Onana doesn't, and has 3 years left on his contract, and so is not 'in play'.

The value of either player only comes to light when they're in play, and this why we know what Lavia might be worth.

No-one's made any bid for Onana, so your guesswork about what he's worth is basically that - an amateur guess.

In the circumstances, with 3 years left and a year in the prem and a young Belgian international, Everton would be crazy to consider anything less than Lavia + 50%, and then see who makes a bid.

IMHO.

Correct, so selling Onana likely wouldnt lead to any player replacements and purchases, but instead to Moshiri's pockets as he finishes the stadium and sells net year.
