If they reject young players before the manager has even trained with them...I'd say we're in a mess, but then we know that already.
The academy does this with players year in year out though. I was surprised and disappointed to hear we might let him go permanently, and I would prefer him to get a championship loan then re-assess as he's fairly highly thought of, but in perspective, he's coming up for 21 and probably nowhere near consideration for PL football.

He's only 14 months younger than Onana so about the same age as Onana was when he signed, is he anywhere close to Onana? Because that's what it takes to be a PL player these days. If he's judged to not be on that trajectory then take the money I guess.

There is a reason one was playing most weeks for a team who finished fourth (?) and the other wasnt even getting a game for us despite having our worst ever frontline.

I'm not even saying he is that good but he is miles better than Maupay, he is actually capable of doing something with his overall play. Maupay offers absolutely nothing with how we set up.

Put it this way, I could see the thinking behind signing Weghorst if we did so, similar profile to DCL etc, I never did get the Maupay signing if we were just going to throw him up top and tell him to pretend to be Calvert-Lewin.

I am not advocating for either.
The thing is that is where too many people get it wrong, Wieghorst is nothing like DCL. And he hates being categorised as that type of player just cos of height.
He classes himself as more of a second striker ( like a playmaker ) he isn't good in the air and doesn't really have a leap on him.
His height just puts him in a category for managers.
Although his ability wouldn't benefit us either way.

Think at the very least Dyche should be able to assess him. If we are so desperate for the money that doesn't bode well for this window.

He also brought in Onana , McNeill and Garner... apparently Kudus was close as well.

However, you are correct in that not bringing in a decent striking alternative was a blemish on the entire window.

We didn’t sign him so this doesn’t count.
