TV Series

For me, and series that just ended to soon. The one that will always stand out is 'The Newsroom' that still kills me to this day.
Totally different kind of series, and I doubt anyone will agree with me on this.
But it was an earlier 'Masterpiece' and they shouldn't have done it to me.
It was brilliant - from the same writer who created The West Wing,,,,fabulous show.

Silo on Apple Tv has been a quite good mystery show. Everyone is locked up in some solo for reasons lost to history. The community Sheriff packs up and leaves the silo to go outside and his replacement is left to figure out what drove him to leave.

Based on a book series so it won't be making up answers as it goes.

No wonder then m8, can't believe I didn't even realise that. The West Wing will always go down as a Legendary series !!!
Aaron Sorkin - brilliant writer. The first few lines in the Newsroom are great, when the main guy is on a stage and it’s a Q&A and an audience member poses the question ‘What makes America the greatest country in the world‘ expecting a bull sh1t patriotic response, when the main guy just goes off in a tirade of why America isn’t. Brilliant, thought provoking stuff. Cut short sadly in its prime.

Still Frustrates me to this day m8 !!

One of those series completely out the ordinary of your standard series, Written/Acted in Perfection has you completely gripped and Hysterics , and BANG !! there it goes, just ends for no reason 😳 just Leaves a hole inside you...

Yeah I like Aaron Sorkin, and now you came to mention that, it doesn't surprise me at all. the way they are both written....

Just went through all of Newsroom in the last couple weeks. I wasn’t expecting to stick with it as to be honest Sorkin hits the schmaltzy cheesy notes far too often for me. He is clearly a fantastic writer but I think some of the stuff should be thrown back at him to add a bit more subtlety. I didn’t get past season two of West Wing because the dialogue was making me throw my eyes up in the air too often. Newsroom I stuck with it as I found some of the characters really good and the general storylines interesting, definitely could have gone another season or two, but hey it’s a pretty good run as it is so maybe best left that way.

Thing is with 'The West Wing' You have to factor in when it was made. I didn't give it a go til after it was finished as I thought, this just wouldn't be my cup of tea.
It's nothing like tv series nowadays but from that era it was probably ahead of it's time in a way.

Than you look at the different series that followed on early on, they just took tv series to a new level.

I dunno. Cheesy stories with cheesy dialogue with seemingly intentionally cheesy music behind it is just that whether 20 years ago or now. It's a Sorkin thing for me, it's just what he does. Like I said Newsroom to me seemed like he reigned it in a lot more.

Think that recent movie Chicago 7 had some more examples of this. Might be misremembering it tho, it was a bit forgettable

(One of my best mates is a director and writer and has done some shows that have been mentioned in this thread and he swears by West Wing and his general excellence as a scriptwriter, and I do recognise after being brow beaten by my mate for years that there's few writers can hit the high notes as often and consistently as Sorkin does ....but I just can't get past the America Shucks Yeah, Hallmark type stuff which clogs up WW)

Admittedly I have only watched it that once which was a hell of a long time ago now, but i'm still gonna give the thumbs up ;)

As for the Newsroom, one of the greatest series ever produced ;););)

Tho we all have different opinions, and that's what makes a Forum ;)
