Summer transfer window 2023

Romano is a busted flush. He's used by agents to drum up fake interests in players.
No way we would pay £10m for him. He’s signed for £12m a season and a half ago and barely scored last season. His stock will be low. A loan is the right call if Dyche wants him.

Imagine Everton thinking (which they did): "We've just very narrowly avoided relegation, but we will need to sell our best player (Richarlison) and don't have the funds to adequately replace him. We ought to be able to avoid a relegation fight next season though".

And then imagine them thinking (surely not): "We didn't replace Richarlison which we knew we needed to, and we got incredibly lucky not to be relegated as a result of that. We've now lost Gordon, Mina, Coady and our very decent backup goalkeeper since the start of last season, and will need to rely on loans and freebies this summer. We still ought to be about to avoid a relegation fight next season".

Going to be interesting the profile of the player we sign for me this summer, obviously its going to be a difficult summer, and potentially not inspiring.

I am keen to see if we are genuinely following the DOF route now, instead of signing players for a manager - or "gifts" as Moshiri called it with Benitez.

Weghorst for me would be a Dyche signing, rather than following a coherent plan.

I've watched him plenty. Yes, he's made mistakes, most footballers do. He's definitely a confidence player, but he has also had many games where he has been quietly effective, and i think the criticism of his passing is particularly unfair. He's generally good in the air, and playing with confidence, in a settled team, i just don't think he's nearly as bad as people say. He's also scored some good and important goals as well.

P. S. I know most people aren't going to agree. This isn't about me changing anyones mind. This is simply redressing the balance a little.

I've criticised plenty of players in my time, often at odds to others opinions as well. And I'm not saying Keane would be my 1st choice in an ideal world either. Simply that the criticism snowball, mostly jumped upon by people who seemingly aren't capable of forming their own opinion and just happily parrot the most prevalent of opinions ad nauseum, has reached the point whereby any opinion to the contrary is shouted down with vitriol.

He's nowhere near as bad as some would have you believe.

I think this is fair. I'll make clear now that there's no way on heaven or earth I want to go into next season with Michael Keane as a 1st XI player, however when you look at the situation we find ourselves in, keeping him in the squad might be sensible - We are losing Mina and Coady, which leaves us with Tarkowski (sound), the returning Branthwaite (who we have high hopes for), Holgate (too small and not a CB in a back 4) and Godfrey (also not a CB).

There's no way Dyche is going to be happy with Holgate in the middle of a back 4, so I'd be amazed if he was still here by the end of the window. I could see Godfrey getting a reprieve, but if I was him I'd be looking for an exit route too because Dyche won't play him as a CB and it's well-documented that the club are looking for at least one full back.

That leaves you with Tarkowski, Branthwaite and Keane - I'm not Keane's biggest fan, but he has had some quietly effective games at times and Dyche knows him and what he's capable of. We need at least one centre back already as 3 isn't enough (on the assumption that Holgate and Godfrey are surplus to requirements and it's v debatable if Godfrey counts as a CB anyway) , so I can't see the club trying to find a buyer for Keane on top of that. I'd assume we bring in one CB and Keane stays.

We don't need RB as a priority, Patterson will be the man long term. But Garner, Holgate and Godfrey are makeshift players to fill that roll, so you could say that about every position on the pitch if we're clambering around makeshift options.

Coleman..

Perhaps, but if it was a loan and we were also signing another striker, you can follow the logic given the likelihood that cash is going to be hard to come by?
