2022/23 Conor Coady

He was barely used second half of the season - so hard to justify - we have been heavy at centre back and looseing him and Mina prob clears a lot of wages in that area.

We might be freeing up a squad place for Brantwaite and a developmental pathway - which could also help the wage bill. Or it might redistribute a wage to recruit a full back - which we defo need.

Be curious if we could have signed him and the sold him though - maybe doing what seems to be happening with Nkounkou in France.

For 16 games with had the 6th best defence in the league.

The the spiral happened throughout the side post Bournemouth.

Then Dyche has a different profile he likes as a CB. We conceded more goals with Keane playing but he wants a tall, strong defender who's mainly quality is in the air.

Don't think it has anything to do with Coady's ability but more down to his profile.

The worry is... having to pay a big chunk of a stretched budget to fit that profile..or he thinks he can get a "tune" out of Holgate and Godfrey - which will be suicide.

As for Branthwaite...he's not going to be the saviour.

Totally understand this decision and it's the correct one in my opinion, yes he is a leader but as Wolves and Dyche already looked not quick enough to play in a back 4. Long term he isn't the answer, zero resale value, big wages, he is exactly the type of signing that got us into trouble.

Braintwaite and another young promising centre back from France etc makes more sense. Hopefully shift Holgate/Keane/Godfrey 2 of them anyway

Dyche and the club telling us Keane will be starting and playing next season.
It’s unlikely, because of his wages, that we will be getting rid of Keane unless a swap is arranged which might suit both clubs, even then the wages might obstruct the deal. Let’s see how Dyche uses the market f he is given the opportunit, he might surprise us.

I hoped we’d keep Coady and look to sell Holgate and Keane. It seems like we’re relying on Branthwaite stepping up and being a consistent partner with Takowski. I like Branthwaite, but can we rely on him to be permanent first choice? Having lost Mina, I feel like we need another centre back, I have little faith in Keane or Holgate. I did have some faith in Godfrey, but that’s nearly gone as well! I think we need another centre back now, and I don’t see us getting as good as Coady for less. Maybe we’ll shift one of the others and recruit well for a change? Seems unlikely! Any £ we do have needs to go towards a genuine goal scorer, so maybe we’ll loan another centre back? Who knows, our ’strategy’ is a mystery to me!
