Summer transfer window 2023

Apart from the obvious Centre Forward & Full back shouts I would like us to sign a clever midfielder/ no 10 .
Like the look of Kudus from Ajax , Ndiaye from Sheff utd . Impressed by Hamer from Coventry.
All forward looking , good on the ball , pass well , can score/assist.

This is where I have my reservations to keep Dyche on . I don't see him signing that sort of player.

We shouldn’t fear selling ANYONE. Other clubs sell their best players and get by fine, it’s the reality of modern day football and we really need to get with the times as a club and fanbase. I don’t want to see any fatalising and doom mongering over selling anyone this summer, not one player in this team should be held up as irreplaceable. We have to get better at replacing our better players, but we certainly shouldn’t be calling it the end of the world when any of them are sold. We need to start bringing in money as a club from somewhere, it’s the only way we can have any hope of moving forward.
I’m personally not attached to any of our players enough to worry if we sold them BUT I have zero faith in the current board to reinvest the money wisely. Their track record for recruitment is abysmal. That being said, we’ve got to do business this summer and here’s hoping with a new structure at the top things will improve.

I think the only players I’d be really upset about losing would be Pickford, Garner and McNeil. Other than that I think everyone is pretty replaceable (technically Garner is, but he’s a player I’d like to see us trying to build around)

Of those three, the only one I think could leave is Pickford. He’s at the stage of his career when a move to a club playing European football would be appealing. Not sure McNeil or Garner would get much playing time at top clubs.

….if the right offers come in, I think there’s a few that could be moved on to bring in more reliable and effective types;

DCL - I’m a big fan but we have to be hard-nosed about squad management & if a club is willing to pay good monies then selling should be a consideration.

Iwobi - I certainly wouldn’t give him a big bucks new deal. He offers little threat & I’m not convinced the game matters that much to him.

Onana - I loved him when he first arrived but disappointed with his input when the going got tough and we most needed him. Linked with some decent clubs, I wouldn’t dismiss offers if the monies is right.

No one is off the table as far as I am concerned. However we should set a hard nose deadline for selling them. Anything after that gets their price inflated by multiples.

Our 2 most sellable ‘assets’ are (IMO) Pickford and Onana. I don’t think anyone will touch DCL and Iwobi will be tough to shift… but I’d love to get shot of both in all honesty - need players who you can rely on.

Can see someone coming in with a lowball offer for DCL.

I wouldn’t be upset about losing any of them. Why should we be upset about it? Brighton are losing Macallister and Caicedo, do you think they’re upset about it? Everyone is replaceable, including those players. We need to stop emotionally clinging onto footballers.

Probably because they are young prospects, we have no one to replace them with, our recruitment is dire and the manager is also dire in that department.

Brighton aren't too happy about losing either of those tho, so I'd say yeah kinda upset probably.

Well our recruitment needs to stop being dire then doesn’t it. We can’t continue to live in the olden days when our best players stay forever and ever and we never have to think about moving on.

This bold bit is just completely wrong and I don’t know why you’ve said it.

There’s a tonne of raw potential there, and I think he’d maybe thrive more at a bigger club where he can do one specific job (be a ball winning beast) and get it to more creative players, rather than with us where there are few creative players to get it to, so we get frustrated by his lack of creativity. But I still think he’s going to the top.

Issue this summer is there’s a flood of different midfielders likely to be on the market (Rice, Caicedo, MacAllister, Maddison, Tielemans, Ward-Prowse just from the PL) so for the big clubs there is plenty of supply, although Onana maybe offers something a bit different to most of those. We might not get enough this summer to be worth selling though so hopefully our transfer budget doesn’t depend on it.

Onana has typically been used before as a DM 'anchor'. Strangely were playing Gana as a DM when hes no idea on positioning and is a ball winner and press machine.

We should use him in that Anchor role and have Garner + one other in the middle with him.

I thought his positioning was superb all game, Outtara barely had a kick.

That said much rather he becomes that ball playing sitter infront of the back 4 that people thought Tom Davies would be when he broke through 4-5 years back.

No reason why he can't as Burnley's CM for last few years of Dyche was Ashley Westwood and Brownhill. Indeed with Lennon and McNeill also regularly playing it was probably one of the smallest midfields in whole league so not like Dyche just packs his midfield with Doucoure types.
If we have Garner off the leash alongside Onana with a license to dictate the play and move then we'll be onto something.

This is how I'd personally look at the squad next season. 4-5 really good, sensible signings.

Pickford
Patterson Tarkowski Branthwaite Myko
Onana
NEW Garner Doucoure McNeil
NEW

NEW
Coleman Coady NEW NEW
Warrington
Simms Gana NEW Nkounkou

Thats what I'd be aiming for if we have some imagination (and money).

Sell the rest for circa £50-60mil (Keane, Holgate, Godfrey, Gray, Maupay, Iwobi.

It's not though is it? People on socials etc aren't chuffed they're losing 2 of their better/best players, by the look of things.

And yeah they do need to stop being dire but they likely won't and we'll likely see some proper Dyche brexit players join us over the summer.
