when you get caught blantantly shoving the qb 10 yards out of bounds I'm not sure what else you can expect to happen as a defender

it was a penalty but very soft. he was a runner no longer considered a QB, hardly touched him as was heading to the sideline. mahomes flopped to sell it.

Now, that's a load of c%$p.....Mahomes had taken two steps out of bounds already when he was shoved - hardly touched? shoved by an in shape NFL player weighing 250 lbs?

Let's see how you take being "hardly touched" in the same situation.

lets see you try stopping when running full speed at 250 lbs, as i said it was a penalty but soft.

Didn't stay up to watch last night due to an early start at work today, but I've watched the full game this afternoon (my recording, not the edited highlights).

Couple notable points:

Humphrey, Thuney & the rest of the Chiefs OL were fully in control of a lackluster Bengals pass rush. Whoever coaches the Kansas OL did a nice job of film review regarding Mike Hilton's zone blitzes, the protection picked him up every time. Kelce and Pacheco stood out in a subtle way: they both did very well chipping the Cincinnati DE's (Hubbard, Hendrickson, Ossai) on most of the passing plays.

Chiefs OL also did a good job of opening running lanes for Pacheco. The rookie running back has significantly outperformed his expected output this year - he was drafted in the 7th round, so wasn't expected to be elite... But behind THAT line, he's getting it done. The Bengals adjusted to compensate, bringing Vonn Bell into the box regularly, but that just left them short-handed in coverage. It was weird to see the Chiefs largely abandon the running game in the second quarter and only go back to it after Cincinnati made it 20-20 at the end of the third quarter.

Cincinnati's OL got absolutely murdered. Last week against the Bills they repeatedly pulled their offensive tackles to operate as lead blockers on running plays but the same tactic failed against the Chiefs because Volson, Karras and Scharping were getting shoved backwards every play by the Chiefs DTs. In pass pro they were even worse: Carman, Scharping and Adeniji all got beaten repeatedly in one-on-ones and you just can't operate a passing game in that scenario. This was what won the game for the Chiefs: total domination of the LOS. (Same reason the Eagles beat the 49ers)

The Chiefs deserved to win. It was astonishing that they were only ahead by 7 at halftime and I don't understand why they didn't just run the ball more in the second half and deny the Bengals the opportunity to try to get back into the game. The Chiefs spent the entire third quarter giving the ball back to Cincinnati at every opportunity, and Burrow put on a clinic to get the Bengals back into touching distance. At least we settled the question about who's the best QB: Burrow had no pass protection, no running game to lean on and the scoreboard made it clear he had to pass all the time, facing the strongest part of the Chiefs D. And he almost won the game. Mahomes on the other hand had an armchair ride behind a largely perfect pocket - I think he got pressured twice in the entire game, but still struggled to beat a Cincinnati team that couldn't stop the run or get any pass rush going.

Hope all the injured players heal up in time for the Superbowl - the ones who are ACTUALLY injured.

Chiefs MVP: Chris Jones, DT.
Bengals MVP: Joe Burrow, QB.

Haha Burrow MVP. Should/could have had 5 ints. When it came to crunch time he showed absolutely nothing.

Literally no one agrees with your assertion about the best qb. Mahomes on one leg literally won the game himself. In addition he has no receivers of note beyond the tight end.

Burrow was the worst player on the field.

Anyway enough of this nonsense debate, the Chiefs have a Super Bowl to prepare for. It's quite clear we are in the midst of a Patriots style dynasty.

The Bungles have one more year of cheap contracts for Higgins and Burrow and then will go back to being well.....the Bungles.

Can't wait for Kev to tell us that Kobe Mahomes is better than Burrow because the Chiefs won the game
He'll definitely make that claim.

It's also transparently wrong.

Burrow kept the Bengals in that game almost singlehanded, in the face of a brutal pass rush while Chase and Higgins were both double covered from the moment Boyd left the game injured.

The Chiefs made it closer than it should have been by not chewing up the clock with long drives when they had the ball. They gave Burrow more time to get back into the game and it very nearly cost them.

Chris Jones, Creed Humphrey, Joe Thuney, Isiah Pacheco, Travis Kelce, Willie Gay and MVS all had more impact on the game than Mahomes did. The Chiefs' roster is really strong in the areas that matter the most: OL and DL (not so much at Safety or WR, admittedly).

While I was driving to a meeting, local (Denver area) sports talk idiots speculating as to the top level coach they think Denver is going to land. Harbaugh & Payton have said no. And there are apparently no other names in the hopper.....

One said the Donkeys just a good QB coach away from competing with the Chiefs......at which time I just shut it off.....

Denver is at least two drafts away from being competitive with ANYONE. Literally everything about their offense needs to be disposed of and started over.

Nah they have a good defense. That won't win them the SB but they could be a playoff team next year if the offense isn't rock bottom. That's not two years away necessarily. It all depends on Russ being passable.

Burrow was decent. No pass protection, Taylor for some reason just abandoned the run even tho the run blocking was OK. Boyd, hurt so they just doubled Higgins/Chase (both made plays but need more work time which cincy rarely had). Cincy's offense is slow developing down the field plays and coaching never really adjusted.

Coaching really thought they'd be able to get big passing plays and constantly hit Mahomes. Neither happened. The only one to ever lay a finger on Mahomes was Ossai, he ended up penalised because he was doubled on that play while the rest of cincy DL didn't come close. Cincy DL is good too, they the chokers.

The one constant of brady's rare losses in the playoffs/SBs in the 10s was the OL getting overrun. With no pass protection it ruins everything.

I know the Broncos D has some strong points. I specifically referred to the fetid latrine that passes for an offense in Denver.

For them to somehow get from their current position to a middle-of-the-pack offensive unit would require an A+ draft, a strong FA window and some sort of coaching adjustment. Not impossible that they pull it off in one year... But far more likely to take two years.
