Those people would defend them regardless though, so again, pretending we'd tried to sign someone when we hadn't would serve no purpose. There's loads to get mad at the club and board about, turning everything into a conspiracy theory is what plays into their hands, because genuine grievances can get put in the same category as the crackpot stuff people blame them for and they can say 'have you seen this, these idiots will be blaming us for 9/11 next' and make it look like they've done nothing wrong.

I am far from a conspiracy theorist. I think it's naive to think they don't put stuff out to the media to help placate the fan base.
