Everton Chief Executive Robert Elstone has today surprisingly claimed that the Club have spent considerably more in the transfer market than the sum they received for Joleon Lescott.

Joleon Lescott was sold to Manchester City for a figure widely reported between £22m and 24m, with Everton spending under £22m to bring in Diniyar Bilyaletdinov for £9m, Sylvain Distin for £5.3m and Johnny Heitinga for £7m.

However, Robert Elstone has claimed we've spent £5m more than the fee we received for Lescott, which he went on to claim represents 'the Club's determination to ensure the manager receives a significant transfer kitty'.

"As a board we absolutely realise that we have to support David Moyes in the transfer market,"

"We spent more than the Joleon Lescott money. We have spent the Joleon Lescott money plus £5m on transfers and we have taken on an additional £3m on the wage bill."
