Made up with the result. A resonably understrength XI have gone to the Riverside and won convincingly there. Particularly pleased with the goals - AJ's was a marvelous solo effort whilst McFadden's was a result of great counterattacking football. It was back to normal service for the back line as well, as they were watertight throughout.

Great way to start the new year! COYB!!

MOTM for me was probably Lescott overall, though McFadden always looked lively and AJ constantly threatened.

But, and I hate to bring it up. His decision making again was left wanting. Should have taken a first time shot to score, and was left twiddling his thumbs when he should have been backing Pienaar up.

Love him to stay, but he needs to eradicate this decision making problem out of his game and he will be a real asset.
