I wonder if this goes back to the war time years as talking about putting candles out, could it be something to do with the black out?
Probably more something said to rowdy households having a party and keeping everyone else up.

Couldn't wait for the first cup game and this was sung.

ONWARDS EVERTONIANS

Onwards Evertonians
Onwards for to see
To see the Old Twin Towers
And sing of Wembley

See the Royal Blue Jerseys
As graceful as can be
Forging on to Victory
And fighting constantly

Onwards Evertonians
Don't let your pride be moved
Remember our song for Wembley is We Shall Not Be Moved

We shall not, we shall not be moved
We shall not, we shall not be moved
Just Like the team that's gonna win the FA Cup
We shall not be moved

Long time ago, if you have something else, you’ll probably be right.
This thread popping back up has just reminded me, here's that RS verse below that they do that I was on about. Did we use it too, or similar?

The battle it started the next morning
Under the Arabian sun
I remember the poor scouser Tommy
Who was shot by an old nazi gun

Then it goes into that battlefield dying verse. Of course just because they did it doesn't mean that we did.

I'm not dead.
I was never on a battlefield.
I ain't a kopite.
It's all a lie.
