"Villa are bigger than Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham and Everton

"Compare them to Tottenham, who were trying to break into the Champions League at the same time as O'Neill was in charge, or Everton, who are trying to do it now - there is no difference in the size of those clubs. Villa are actually bigger than both of them.

"The difference is the way they have been run. That is the reason Villa have gone in the opposite direction.

"So instead of doing a Spurs, they have done a Sunderland - they were hanging on and just avoiding relegation for the past four or five years, but it was inevitable it was going to happen."

Always irked me when back in the O'Neill era the media would rejoice in his frugality in the transfer market and mention them in the same breath as us in regards over achieving even though they were spunking £5m on reserve fullbacks whilst we were signing the likes of Magaye Gueye and Joah Silva for buttons.

Looks like the myth lives on despite O'Neill spending 120m (80m net) during his tenure

They've been relegated numerous times since we last have.

We've also won two more league titles.

Big club, no doubt, but nobody can say Villa bigger than Everton and actually mean it.

There is an argument for that looking at honours/stadium size, but the fact they've won one league title in nearly 110 years, 2 fa cups in a 100 years (in 2 years time that will be down to 1)

So along with those they've got 5 league cups, 1 European cup, 1 super cup and 1 charity shield.

They were bigger than us in the 19th century but now, not for me.

Ah yeah, totally agree they are comparable to us or Spurs in terms the dimensions you mention. ?J?us thought the article / notion was worth debating and, probably more so, wanted to get on my hobby horse about the O'Neill thing
