Leisure Suit Larry was amazing from what I remember, and completely unsuitable for me at the age I played it, which made it even better.

One title in that series was good, the rest absolute garbage.

Bizarrely, there was one adult game that I played a year or so back that wasn't utterly terrible - it was called Lula: The Sexy Empire, which was basically a porn empire management game from the ground up. Don't get me wrong, not a good game, but not an absolute disgrace either. It was playable and funny in a way.

Just did a quick search of it and they were making it up until 2009? Christ I thought it would have died long before that. I have no idea what version I played, it would've been mid 90's I guess.

So....

I've managed to persuade her that I should have a collection of retro console. She can never think what to get me for birthdays and Christmas so this seemed a good idea.

I want to start with a Sega Saturn (I used to have one and have brill memories of it).

But I do have a worry, what if they've not aged well? Will I be gutted?

There was a boss football game on the Saturn. Anyone remember what it was called? It was viewed up the pitch, rather than horizontally.

Was it Sega Soccer? I loved it, anyway.

House of the Dead 2/3 was also ace on the Saturn.

I still have my Saturn for 4 games that I still love. Graphically they are dated but they are still great games.
Baku baku - animal eating block game
Saturn Bomberman
and the superb Athlete Kings and Winter Heat -- had so much fun on these 2!

Any PC whatsoever can do it mate?

Also, agree completely with RaleighBlue - there are some exceptions but generally the early 3D stuff plays horribly today. Syndicate being an example.

Our PC is truly sh*te mate. Laptop might do it though.

Any sites you could reccomendend?

Devastating news this. Was the game that sealed the deal for getting the Saturn!

Athlete Kings is one I want to revisited. Absolute classic.

Any game/console with a light gun does the trick for me.

First one of those I had was for my Dreamcast console. House of the Dead was excellent with it. That console was superb, ahead of its time and I was gutted that it flopped.

PS1 for me. The Namco G-con45:

Time Crisis and Point Blank are the ones that stick out to me. If ever I go bowling I have to go in to the arcade bit and have a go on Time Crisis.

I wish they still made games like this.

Time Crisis! That was excellent! I remember how proud I was when I first finished it, I recall a never ending shoot out with the end boss before jumping on the helicopter. Happy days indeed!

Point Blank was the series of target practice games wasn't it? Duck shoots and balloons, that kind of thing?

Yeah that was it. It wasn't as good as Time Crisis but it was good fun!

SENSIBLE WORLD OF SOCCER (SWOS) 96/97

Release Date: 1996

Available: Amiga retro console or PC via GOG.com or free abandonware – don’t bother with the Xbox Live version.

...

SWOS on the surface of things looks an arcade title, and it is, except it also offers the purest form of simulated football you can buy. It’s worth buying a dedicated joystick for the true retro brilliance of this title, and for a couple of quid on GOG it’s an absolute must for any football fan wanting an entirely different and entirely awesome footballing experience. Furthermore, this game is supported to this day by a rabid community who provide everything you need to get engrossed in this game in 2014...

Well I don't know if they're available, but Kick Off 2/Goal are the purest and best football games ever made. Ever. SS/SWOS were great fun, but the Dino Dini/Anco games had it nailed.
