Run In Form

As we prepare to kick off our penultimate game of the season, with safety secured, I got to thinking how our form compares to past relegation seasons. Currently we have 10 points from 4 with the likely most we can finish with being 13 (assuming we win today and lose next week), this how others have compared

93/94 - prior to THAT Wimbledon game we only won 1 of the 5 games before that, losing 3 and drawing the other, the final day win saw us finish with 7 points from 18

94/95 - under Big Joe we went into the cup final unbeaten with 1 win and 5 draws to finish with 8 points from 18, in fact after losing to eventual champions Blackburn on April Fools Day we went 9 unbeaten to end the season counting the cup wins over Spurs and United and the Good Friday win over Newcastle

97/98 - a disaster of a final season for the club’s greatest manager saw just 1 win from the last 6, drawing 3 including the final day against Coventry to finish with 6 points from 18

98/99 - Walter Smith’s first season was a struggle but, thanks to the inspired signing of Super Kev, we finished the season bang in form winning 4 of the last 6, losing the other two and finishing with 12 points from 18

01/02 - David Moyes came in and kept the Blues up but the last 6 saw only 2 wins with 1 draw and 3 defeats to finish with 7 points from 18

03/04 - the only truely bad season of Moyes’ 11 in charge saw us end up taking just 2 points from 18 and losing the last four capped by a 5-1 hiding in our final trip to Maine Road

21/22 - after a horrific campaign that saw us plummet down the league under the single most derivative manager in history and a rookie manager trying to amend things, we finished the last 6 with 3 wins and a draw to finish with 10 from 18

22/23 - another shambolic campaign on and off the field saw Lampard outside later than he should have been and Sean Dyche installed who finished the season with just 2 wins from the last 6, 1 being the final day against Bournemouth which kept us up, a total of 8 from 18

So as it stands a win today would give us our best last 6 form of any season in which we’ve battled the dreaded drop

I dont think we’re gonna win another game this season, if the Luton game was anything to judge by, the squad is already mentally done with this season. Id love to be wrong ofc.

Is there a tl:dr option? I'm a few pints in at the Tommy frost, not brought me readers

I think we have to remember our form and placing in a relegation battle is false. In reality this was not a relegation threatening season accept for points deduction. This is just a poor mid table season with stress added on and off the park
