when i score we riot

Player Valuation: £35m
So people are already fuming about how the £28m for Rom seems steep. Now I've for one been arguing ever since before this happened that whatever fee we sign him for, we will sell him on for a profit. I am not in doubt for a second that if we ever sell Rom, we will sell him for a profit.

Furthermore, this isn't a first. A lot of us were fuming our face off for signing McCarthy for £13m, but not one of us is in doubt that we will fetch at least £20m, and probably a lot more, for him in today's market - despite financial fair play.

In fact, let me reiterate that - we might be slightly poor and whatnot, but today's transfer record is a huge landmark. And this means we've tied down our liquidity. We are back to "sell to buy" i guess, but our assets as they look are worth literal bajillions.

According to the very rudimentary figures of Transfermarkt , players like Howard are worth £2m and Barkley £11m but obviously that is way off the mark. Players like Osman, Distin and Barry are a moot point, as they're virtually unsellable (though i still don't know how people would actually bid for Phil Naville back then), so the XI i'm setting up here is mainly young and re-sellable assets.

Feel free to put together whatever bench you want. Naismith might be a hard sell, but i have a feeling we could get £5m for him if we tried, you know?
As a rule, let's include players that have actually played for us though. No speculating in Ledson's value!
As another rule, everyone has to put a price on Hibbo's head.

Howard - £?
Coleman - £?
Jagielka - £?
Stones - £?
Baines - £?
Besic - £?
McCarthy - £?
Barkley - £?
Mirallas - £?
McGeady - £?
Lukaku - £?

Bench - Robles, Naismith, Garbutt, Gibson, Kone, Hibbert

Irrelevant though, cause Kone is boss.

It does look like good business, doesn't it though?

And i can't help but figure that even if Besic is bad, he'll still sell for at least £4m to Celtic or something.

You're right. The increased value of our players in the transfer market puts us closer to the top table in the market. Spreading the deal over length of contract also gives us more flexibility at subsequent transfer windows. Top players are going to escalate in value over the next few years, as football reaches an even wider audience, and if football ever really takes off in the US, the lid could be blown right off transfer fees and players wages...you won't see veteran players in MLS but top players, at their peak.
