Nil Satis Nisi Optimum will always remain at the very heart of the Club’s ethos.
The Latin phrase first appeared on an Everton Crest in 1938, first appeared on an Everton shirt in 1978 and has been on and off the shirt in the years since then as the Crest has continued to evolve.
The latest version of the Crest will not feature the motto – but striving for nothing but the best remains at the very core of everything the Club does.
It will remain highly visible throughout the Club – in physical form around the stadium and training ground, and in terms of the attitude, approach and outlook of everybody associated with our Club. A new range of NSNO-branded Nike leisure wear will be launched by the Club this summer.
Commercial Director, Dave Biggar, explained: “Whilst it no longer appears on the Crest, it remains tangibly and spiritually at the heart of our Club.
“It will still be highly visible inside the stadium and will still be part of our each and every day processes.”
Its omission from the Crest was discussed by the Fans’ Forum.
Forum Chairman, Tony Bott, said: “Nil Satis not being on the Crest is going to provoke debate. There were some members of the Forum who expressed reservations about its removal from the Crest. The Club have assured us that it will still underpin everything we do. We all have it in our hearts and minds; in our DNA.”
Nil Satis Nisi Optimum is - and will always remain - Everton’s motto. And ‘Nothing But The Best’ will continue to be the ethos driving the Club and its fans on a daily basis.
