2023/24 Jarrad Branthwaite

Southgate should be playing stones and Branthwaite together as often as possible for England. Stones might only have one more tournament left with his injury record and I think it would be a shame if these 2 players end up missing each other because Southgate would rather play Maguire and Dunk.
They will be the starting pair at the next WC, actually think Branth could end up playing in the Euros due to injuries anyway.. gives a different dimension being two footed and will help balance out the poor left hand side England have atm

Carl Palmer is another who didn’t get a kick has been outstanding for Chelsea this season.
Cole Palmer was carrying a slight knock.

‘A bit of a shame that Cole Palmer missed so much training that we weren’t able to put him into the game [against Belgium] at the stage it was having missed most of the week.'

Isnt there still Bosnia and Iceland in June?

Its an incentive for him to carry on as hes been doing and see if he can break into the squad then.

Typically, the squad will be announced before those fixtures.

He'd need to ge part of a "back-up" contingency of 4-5. But he more than likely wouldn't see any game time.

This was his chance and feels like Southgate just wasted the opportunity.

It certainly does. Unless hes seen something in training he doesnt like...makes no sense.

Glad someone in the media is questioning why he didn’t get a sniff.

The only reasonable view is that Southgate took him for the experience.

But even then playing Dunk and giving others their debuts counteracts that.

Its very bizarre.

I don’t follow England except in the major tournaments but apparently Southgate does this regularly with young players/fringe players to integrate them into the set up and watch them in training and then plays them later, like Ivan Toney apparently.

Most importantly though, straight after the Belgium game Branthwaite was straight on socials posting pics in Everton gear showing everyone where his focus is now which is great to see. He’s a very confident lad and although he may be a little frustrated he won’t dwell on it.

Take away the Everton bias, what good is involved Dunk?

Takes time to settle into international football, the fella will be 33 this autumn.

Add to that makes a big mistake and mo worries. Whereas Branthwaite has potential to be a regular for England for 10+ years.

glad Ian Wright has called it out. Absolutely pointless involving him for experience knowing its his last chance before Euros.
