Everton Youth Teams Thread

This just popped up on Newsnow, 11 minute highlights of last weekends mini Derby courtesy of LFCTV, I was expecting it to be all their best bits of the game but we actually had a lot of the play, had a goal given offside (3:19) that def came off their player before it made its way to Dyson to finish.

Good stuff - cheers for posting, we looked far brighter despite missing our best attackers and having the likes of Kenny/Ledson already playing at U21 level.

U16s won their derby 5-3 too.

By the way we appear to have won the race to sign Joel Ngbany Mumbongo as he is playing for our U16 team and either scored or set up 2 goals against Liverpool.

Highly rated Swedish striker been on trial at all the big clubs

Must say very unbiased commentating, thought we were by far the best.

is that a real person?

Found it interesting that Liam Walsh started at centerback.

Can he play CB @swisso or is it more of a case of trying him out somewhere different/moving him so he can learn things.

Tom davies looked quite good at right back. Is he further down the pecking order as a central midfielder to walsh? Also does anyone know why donuhue isn't starting more? He was fantastic last season.
Ultimately we were playing without Connolly. Brewster, Ledson, Dowell and Kenny and still looked the better side.

walsh has played quite regularly in midfield for the u-21s and mentioned as potential first-teamer by martinez.
donuhue has been injured a lot, hopefully he can stay fit now.

Watching that short video that Harry Charsley (no 7) looked decent.

Is he rated highly by staff at the club?
He was highly thought of a couple of years ago and played a fair bit for the under 18's as an under 16 scoring some important goals. I don/t know if he has quite kicked on that much.

I also think, we have a glut of very good central midfield players coming through, which while a bit disappointing for Charsley is very good for Everton. Obviously you have Ledson, Dowell and Walsh who Martinez has mentioned. Also Joe Williams Jon Joe Kenny who can play there, as well as Tom Davies who was last years under 16's captain.

I thought Charsley played well in a wide position though, and he may be deployed there a bit more.

If anyone cares:

Joel Mumbongo has not signed with the club. He was a trialist in the match against Liverpool and is back in Sweden now, according to his Twitter page.

The focus from Martinez on forwards (won't say out and out strikers because Henen is a winger) in the youth setup is interesting. Obviously Henen and Byrne were brought in over the summer, and they're taking an extended look at Mumbongo. This seems a smarter strategy than not.

We seem to be doing well at producing our own midfielders and defenders, especially fullbacks.

But we don't seem quite as lucky in the forward roles and those can be the most expensive to buy experienced players for so trying to bring them in early sounds a very smart strategy.
