Everton Youth Teams Thread

Chris Long not getting in the squad for Burnley. When they get promoted he'll need to find another club, he should have stayed with us and gone out on loan.
It's weird, he was doing well for Brentford when he was on loan there and they were pushing for promotion. Scored 4 goals in 10 games for them. Probably would have been better for him if he had managed to get a place in their squad rather than going to Burnley.

.....not sure that we should contract youngsters who are unlikely to beak through at Everton.
That's probably true but IIRC we offered him 3rd choice striker or something like that but he wanted more guaranteed playing time so left. I think we thought he had the potential to break through eventually.

I guess with his age now , 15 ?, he wouldn't be a scholar so not easy to tell unless someone sees the u16.
Your last five are currently U21 GKs, first two U18s to which you can add Aaron Jones , Wales U17, Matthew Johnson and our recently capture from Man City 16 year old Joe Hilton.
So by my reckoning 10 GKs between 20 -16, so we're unlikely to be too worried about a 7 year old making it. Likelihood is of course that either Joel proves himself a PL GK , or we go out and spend £10-15 mill on a decent GK in the summer, thus keeping all the youngsters out for the next 10 years. The puzzle of how you develop young GKs is a difficult one, our solution seems to be get as many in as possible , one may make it through.

How many specialist goalkeeping coaches would we need for 10 of them i wonder?

Surely the coaches can see whose going to be potentially able to break into the squad out of 10 of them? Id think that having 5+ players for one positon in the U21s is quite ridiculous really.

Goalkeeper of course is a specialist role but how do national teams pick their keepers at that age in the youth sides i wonder....they must be comparing players. Surely we do the same internally and can see a peckng order?

Seems so bizarre to me to have all these free keepers signing and then they are just making up massive numbers then released.

The "strategy" seems lik a scattergun approach to me and we should knock it on the head and go and find /buy a top player at that level who we can focus on developing rather spreading resources over 10 of them.
