Everton players being blamed for England's elimination

Shocking the way Jagielka and Baines have been hung out to dry for this. BBC and ITV last night, Talksport now running with a 'should Terry and Cole have been picked?' show.

They must be at an all time low. Poor buggers.

To get to the level they're at, they'll be fairly self confident, they'll know where their faults were and where the burden of blame lies with their team mates.

Roberto will have a quite word with them, they'll be ok.

It is doing my head in.

Doesn't cross their minds that Cahill was marking Suarez and that Baines wasn't allowed to push forward due to Welbeck being in front of him on the left. How do they expect Barkley to make a difference coming on as a sub all the while?

Blame Everton all over again I see.

Ok, Jagileka was poor for the first goal letting Suarez ghost in behind him. Fair enough. But that was it as far as 'eliminating' England form the tournament from an Everton players fault pov.

Second goal was all down to Gerrard. And against Italy Sturridge failed to read Pirlo's stepover from the corner and the second was down to Baines and Johnson and Cahill in equal measure.

Oh hold on, Liverpool and Chelsea have huge media reach and cant be allowed to have their assets touched.

It's ridiculous how much of the blame they get, hope it doesn't effect them, i'm sure roberto will get there confidence back and the support from our fans.

To be honest, most of the things I've read blame Gerrard.
But only in the context of 'England's great leader St Steven of Gerrard may just finally have had enough, after a quite stellar England career. We should be blessed to have shared the same oxygen with this living deity, and it is such as sad reminder of the fragility of human existence. Poor St Steven should not have to suffer in such a way'.

The accurate appraisal would be that both players have performed slightly below their capabilities. The reasons for Baines are well stated - it was a tactical error failing to identify the Italian threat on the left side. Neither Rooney or Welbeck seemed adequately prepared to do their defensive support. Second half last night I thought Baines was excellent, not just in what he contributed but also in what his guileless teammates failed to spot - his excellent overlapping runs that could've created several more chances if the gravitational pull of Gerrard and Johnson didn't attract the ball like a dying star.

Jags was decent in the main but positionally poor for the goals. He can't hide from that, but those chances were directly the result of an immobile midfield.

Gerrard's ego is the corrosive element in all of this. The teams that have thrived at this tournament - whether the Netherlands, Colombia, Chile, or whoever else - play as an equal eleven, and the ball is passed accordingly. Given the opportunity, almost every England player will pass the ball to Gerrard over Baines or Barkley or Lallana, who were the three most creative players on the pitch at the end.

Media bias might apportion blame to the smaller egos of Baines and Jagielka, but anyone with half a brain (Hodgson apparently doesn't qualify) will see the real problems.

No surprise really, blame every body but the actual culprits...

Still, apart from Engerland the world cup has been pretty ace...God knows who's going to win, much too early to tell.

Let's face it they are the easy targets. We all know by now the English media will not dare criticize a Liverpool darling easier to target a Jagielka or Baines.I have to say both BBC and Itv's coverage of this world cup has been awful, if they are on a panel they should not be censored, if Roy Keane was on last night Gerrard would have got it both Barrels but Dixon and Hoddle to a lesser extent are only thinking about their careers.

It's amazing how the R.T.E panel viewed the game compared to I.T.V, Brady, Giles and Dunphy slaughtered Gerrard in every aspect of his game, Brady ran a clip showing how often Gerrard lost possession in both matches and Dunphy called him the utimate bluffer (he hasn't even the balls to face the camera) was his exact words. Brady then said Cahill was pathetic for the second goal but England will look for a scapegoat and they will always pick on the easier targets. Giles said Henderson was probably the most baffling selection of all, "What does he do apart from making a 5 yard pass look difficult"

R.T.E might not have as slick a production than both BBC and ITV but at least they say it like it is.

Jags was at fault, Baines was poor. The entire team was a laugh to watch.
