2023/24 Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Think he'll leave tbh.
Don't see him signing new contract.
Rightly or wrongly, think what happened Villa (a) hasn't been forgotten.

13/14 we had

Lukaku Jelavic Naismith Kone Anichebe as striker options

Mirallas Deulofeu McGeady Pienaar Osman as wide attacking options

and Ross Barkley behind them all at 10

Oh for that sort of depth now. We’re absolutely miles off it.

13/14?

We sold Anichebe and brought in Kone who got injured in October and didn't play again.

Jelavic barely featured and was quickly sold to Hull.

So it was Lukaku and Naismith. We loaned in Lacina Traore who rapidly got injured. 1 game 1 goal, woo.

Depth would be nice tho.

Is it though? If Lukaku was injured and any of those fellas had to step in for him, the drop off would’ve been enormous. Bigger than the drop off from DCL to Beto or Chermiti for me.

You’re joking surely? Jelavic Naismith and Mirallas are miles ahead of where Beto is currently. Both Beto and Chermiti could be good in the future but they’re not near the same level yet.

Also the drop off is only bigger because Lukaku was far better than DCL is, so the relative gap might be smaller but the quality is not the same. Lukaku was even dropped by Martinez at times that season such was Naismith’s form. Beto as he is now would never get in the team ahead of 13/14 Lukaku

Jelavic and Naismith were utter crap lol Jelavic got sold in the January too and Naismith never ever played as a lone striker, Mirallas was a wide option as you specified yourself, he could never and did never play up front.

When was Lukaku dropped for Naismith?! That’s just an outright complete lie.

Jelavic crap? He scored 11 goals in half a season for us. DCL Beto and Chermiti only have 14 combined together this season.

He had some rough patches with us and we didn’t always play to his strengths but he wasn’t crap.

Are you not concerned that we have spent well in excess of 200million to replace Dom and hes still very much the best Striker at the club?

He was injured for almost 2 seasons and we had 2 very close relegation battles, in the season he stayed fit the team "finishes" around 10th?

Clearly I overrate him, happy to admit that, but there are a lot of people who really underrate what he brings to the side.
£200m?
