bent, how old is he?

would seem to fit the type of player moyes buys.

but if milito is the business, then he will do for 3 years.

Bent has similar strengths to AJ but for me but so much more. The difficulty with AJ is that hes one dementional, hes become easy to play against, because his only asset is his pace, getting behid players and leaving them for dead with is pace. His innital success was based on this combined with the fact opposing defenders didnt know much about him. Within six months of his signing his game was found out defenders knew if they played deep or got tight to him he had little more about him to cause any damage, with that as well he is very easily knocked of the ball.

The difference with Bent is he has the pace to do what AJ does, but hes stronger, and can also play as a sole striker up fornt, he can score different types of goals, he has good heading ability and positional play. So he can score goals by balls over the top with is pace, he can score goals if the ball is threaded into the box and he can score form crosses into the box, he is a far moe well rounded player then AJ.

Whhat was the source that said he wouldbe signing in the next few days.

Radamel Falcao from River Plate that was being linked with Arsenal & United would be a better option for about half the price.

More caps than Bent and is only 22, River's top scorer last season, they play a similar formation to us and he's called Falcao!...

Bent would be a great signing, and id love to have this formation:

Howard

Neville - Yobo - Lescott - Baines

Fernandes - Moutinho - Arteta

Cahill

Bent - Yakubu

With Jagielka rotating between baines and yobo, fernandes and arteta switching sides throughout the game...Some games play the original 4-5-1 too, we would do great in hte premiership with this side. Remember, Jagielka, pienaar, osman, vaughan, hibbert, anichebe, valente would all be on the bench, which is a great bench tbh...

It wouldn't work, it's either Cahill or Bent really for me. Bent in a 4-4-2 or Cahill in a 4-5-1. Either way it's good to have options.

While he's not a worldclass striker, I wouldn't mind seing us go after Bent as a replacemet for AJ. With McFadden already gone, we need another experienced striker.. and Bent is that.

But I doubt we'll see much transfers coming in before Moyes contract is signed and delivered. Not that interesting for players to sign up for a coach that might leave in a year.

i wish mate!;)

Really not sure Bent is worth all that cash though. AJ netted 10 last season and wasn't in the best of form - he is due a good season. Bent scored 8 goals in 36 games. At best Bent is a replacement for AJ not an improvement really.

It seems a pointless exercise to replace a striker for another of the same calibre (and likely to get the same amount of goals) for the same price. Fair enough sell AJ for 10 million and bring in someone fairly similar for 5 million so there is cash to spend elsewhere. Hopefully Moyes has someone else up his sleeves.
