Cahill's red against Newcastle

So we still have question marks over what was said. This is going to be one to look out for in his autobiography isn't it?

why can't cahill tell the FA what he said and tell them not to go public, then surely they would issue a 3 match ban for cabaye for foul and abusive language. I know cahill was guilty, but how does the aggrevator seem to be the one who goes unpunished?

Hearsay, and he probably didn't see the point in trying to get Cabaye banned. Cahill doesn't seem like the vindictive type, best to just let it drop i suppose.

Tim's got his payback on him for whatever he said, and copped the ban. If the other tool has apologised then clearly his reaction was aggravated by the Cabaye. He's over it & wants nothing more to do with the incident...good enough for me.

Unlike players & other clubs, he doesn't whinge & whine about the "injustice" of the ban. He knows he was wrong reacting the way he did, so I think we should respect Tims call on this & let it go.

A "disgusted" Tim Cahill has accused Frenchman Yohan Cabaye of using language which has "no place either on or off the football pitch".

The Socceroo will serve a three-match ban for the start of next season's English Premier League after his club Everton's appeal against his sending off on Sunday was rejected.

A fuming Cahill was shown a red card for grabbing the throat of Newcastle midfielder Cabaye just moments after the full-time whistle in Everton's 3-1 win.

"My reaction at the end of the game was out of character but I was disgusted at comments made to me by Cabaye," Cahill said in a statement through his management company.

"I don't wish to elaborate on the exact detail of what was said - but his words have no place either on or off the football pitch.

"Cabaye has apologised via his club's website and as far as I am concerned the matter is now closed."

French international Cabaye issued an apology on Newcastle's club website on Sunday night.

"I would like to apologise for the cross words I exchanged with Tim Cahill which resulted in his red card and my booking on the final whistle," he said.

"It was unnecessary and, regrettably, the result of frustration and disappointment, all in the heat of the moment.

"It is out of character and for that I am sorry."
