Sounds like a way of utilising present squad strengths...or a cheapskate way of solving a midfield problem.

Every decision made on the playing side at Everton has to be viewed through the prism of what's cost effective.

Guardiola switches Lahm inside to fit his system; Martinez mulls over a similar switch for Baines because Kenwright cant give him funds.

Or even baines at defensive mid ala phillip lahm

I know it was a bit throaway but genuinely interesting shout mate. I think he'd be excellent there, actually. Not a position that requires anywhere near as much pace as fullback - one for the future? Be a great way to get him and Oviedo both in. Barry's replacement?

Well done to SageyEFC for calling it; I thought it was a very interesting proposition, and seemingly Martinez feels the same way. In fairness dave, I for one would like to try out any method that gets Baines and Oviedo in the same team. But cost effectiveness and tactical innovation are not, and with Martinez need never, be mutually exclusive.
