Alcaraz for Besic in derby

If Coleman's shot had gone in rather than being saved and Everton had gone on to win, would that have been enough to convince you?

No, cos with a balanced side and Barkley playing instead of Naismith that should have been happening all game.

Are you suggesting we need to play 3 CBs in order to have the 2 most attacking full backs in the league attacking, cos they managed it quite well last season, you know, when we played a balanced formation.

I suspect, given the way Besic was straight down the tunnel, he was either ill or needed the toilet and we couldn't afford to be left with 10 men.

Whatever it was, i very much doubt it was tactical.

Dont know if anyone else noticed once Alcaraz came on John Stones immediately stepped up as if into midfield and started carrying the ball forward.
Not sure if this was pre planned but it definitely worked Liverpools midfield couldnt handle him, like to see a bit more of this.

As it's Alcaraz, it's a negative substitution. Awful player shouldn't be anywhere near this team/sqaud.. championship player through and through. Represents the worrying side of Martinez.

Pssssst....come ere...

Alcaraz has never played in the championship..he's what you call one of those premiership only type of players..

He's even played at a Wold Cup which maybe slightly below certain some people's opinion of "the premiership" level but certainly above everyone's opinion of "the championship" level.

For one reason or another, Besic came off. But Martinez did make a tactical change too.

With the score still standing at 0-0, Martinez decided to put more emphasis on attack for the last five minutes. He decided to play Coleman and Oviedo as wing backs with three men at the back. That's why he brought on Alcaraz.

And it very nearly worked - as a wing back, Coleman had a great shot at goal.

He's awful and would never have been out of place in the Championship.
