Its just odd to me. Who does this kind of loan?

Loads of clubs. It's hardly uncommon for Prem teams to loan out their promising youngster to lower league clubs for short spells so that they can gain experience.

I think the problem is that some fans seem to think he's the next Rooney and think he should be immediately given a run of games for the first team.

Whilst the other group of fans remember what happened with Rodwell, and whilst freely admitting Barkley is a big talent and potentially a great player, think he isn't really 'all that' just yet.

All I know is that Chelsea loaned out the likes of Ryan Bertrand, and Utd loaned out Nathan Cleverly, and they returned better players ready for first team footy.

Sometimes it all about being away from home too, and growing up, improving your maturity. Barkley is still only 18 years old.

he came on vs brighton at the 46th min , at 1-0 to brighton , game is currently 3-0 to the brighton and barkley has been booked , not watched the game though so wouldnt know how he played

Brighton 3-0 Sheff Wed full time. No shame in that, Brighton go top of the league.

Next games are Sheff Wed vs Huddersfield on Wed, and Sheff Wed vs Bolton next Saturday.

At least he didn't get sent off. I believe he is on a month's loan, not sure whether that is a club decision or his. If we get injuries or Fellaini fall out we may need him back,. At least he will get to play

They never went out for just one month with a "maybe" for a few more. They went on long stints.

Moyes doesnt think hes ready but doesnt want him on the bench... So send him on loan properly for a long period and not just a handful of games.

Hell learn very little imo

I agree, and i bet he gets sent off. Often these loans don't work and players spend more time on the bench, mainly because they are not long term - managers want to build a 'regular steady' side.

Sounds like it will be a loan that is extended month by month which works well for us.

This is fantastic news, Barkley gets some much needed game time in a tough league and we cans see how he performs on a consistent basis.

I went to the game tonight. Ross came on at half time and did very little in a very poor Sheff Weds side totally outplayed by Brighton.

Ross played just behind Jay Bothroyd and was often frustrated as he saw very little of the ball so he came deeper to try and pick it up and influence things. His touch was ok and he dropped little short passes into his team mates but did little to improve his side in the half.

One thing I noticed was that he didn't often come towards the ball and so often found the ball intercepted. This could be something he will improve a bit more with age but it's something he needs to work on as is his workrate when he doesn't have the ball.

All that said he was one of their better players and I'm sure there is more to come

Fellaini, Osman, Naismith, Pienaar, Neville, Coleman, Mirallas, Gueye, Oviedo, Heitinga, Anichebe.

11 players, in Gibson's absence. All got more chance of getting a game in midfield than Barkley, even if he had to stay to bench warm.

If he's so great, he'll impress at Sheffield Wednesday and then he'll come back to us on fire.

Loaning out Barkley will have zero negative effect on us. It's hardly a Brenda-with-Carroll scenario.

I don't really see what Coleman, Gueye, Oviedo etc have to do with us loaning out a central midfielder after a loan for one falls through and another gets injured.
