It's down to the number of foreigners. There's a finite number of squad places at premier league squads and no cap on the number of foreign players allowed. The Premier league is one of the best 4 leagues in the world and probably the richest. It therefore will attract at least 25% of the top players from each country. Local players are always going to be squeezed out unless they are exceptional because the 10th best player for his age in England is competing with the top 3 or best players for their age I'm every other country.
Or is the amount of foreign players in our league because the young talent is just not good enough,it's the chicken and the egg conundrum again

Possibly clubs(especially premier league clubs) do not have the time to develop young players and give them 1st team experience because it's become so essential to stay in the top flight for financial reasons,we need success instantly etc.....

.....it's such a massive step up that large numbers don't quite have what it takes. Ability is an obvious factor but there is also a lot of character and desire, often those that do come through are the ones who have no fear.

I think the overall numbers is a bit misleading. England have enough average premier league players to choose from. We need to increase the quality of the ones that get through not the overall number. England rugby is a prime example. We have loads of good players, more than any other nation but we don't produce enough great players that make a difference at international level. You're better of producing one Rooney every 4 years than 3 osmans every year.

Who would you say produced the great player that Wayne Rooney is,us or united???

Us because he was on the verge of quitting football for boxing before Colin Harvey persuaded him to knuckle down to football. Utd just reaped (perhaps an "e" too many?) the benefit. Playing with a better quality of player obvious put the final gloss on him

I think it's starting to change. Academy work has been improving and more clubs are starting to give youngsters more of a go now. You've got us and Southampton. Spurs and Newcastle are starting to put more youngsters in. Even Chelsea have given Solanke and Loftus-Cheek some game time recently. I think in 5 years time you'll see a lot more homegrown players in the league.
